whatever other flaws oblivion has, the landscapes and the soule soundtrack were good. i remember foraging for alchemy stuff around the central lake being one thing i liked better than in morrowind
this is bringing back memories of actionbutton and tim rogers panning the game cause it wasnât âcrunchyâ or âstickyâ enough. or that it had a silly wait message while jumping instead of just disabling the button. or that it wasnât the holodeck on star trek yet. yeah neither was videoball, jerk
I could never get into any elder scrolls games. Cursed games
Can you really fault someone for not liking Oblivion because it is aesthetically offensive on every level?
I mean, it is basically the Things That Are Not Aeshetic of games.
The landscapes were pretty but there was no variation in the LotR New Zealandscape so they got boring quickly. The oblivion gate hellworlds were miserable (I dunno maybe thatâs deliberate because hell lol). Soule soundtracks are always good, true, but Morrowindâs was better. Skyrim though, in most all ways a better game than Oblivion, has an even more boring soundtrack I think. Soule is one of those guys who gets less interesting the more he has to work with.
itâs just the faces, the rest of the art is fine. i donât know how you get âoffensive on every levelâ unless youâve only heard of the tim snark or w/e
they were just too ambitious in trying to make every npc in the world unique for their âradiant aiâ selling point. at least not with their tech in 2005. dark souls used the same system six years later to much better effect. neither morrowind or skyrim looked as goofy in this regard, fwiw
at the time, i remember being really impressed by the grasses and the forests in the game. that was a big selling point with the next-gen hardware and all that. but yeah i wonât argue that itâs a flawed game, i just brought those two things up in the context of picking flowers.
i didnât know that anyone was impressed with oblivionâs rolling hills of pea soup
Iâve always wanted to explore the stock windows xp wallpaper
Itâs in Sonoma.
Too bad Diplo left because he did the best job of explaining why Oblivion owns when shitting on it that one time.
Basically, Oblivion was the end of my ability to see that style game as abstraction and therefore funny as opposed to realism and therefore boring
i mean, youâre not wrong. it looked bad at the long draw distances, thatâs one thing that came with a tradeoff. i mean this stuff all varies with hardware and mods and the like, but the 2002 morrowind that i played was surrounded in fog maybe 200 feet ahead. there wasnât anything like in oblivion, where you could climb and look out over the whole world map. and there were a lot of barren hills, yeah.
Sorry everyone oblivion has good colours. I like how much it imprints certain colours on you if you play a certain way. If you are a cat person you get infinite night eye which means at least half the game is tinted super blue. Sorry, that owns. On top of that you are probably doing stealth stuff which means you also probably have some ring on that lets you see living things through walls and shit and it does this by making them glow really weird. So the game just always looks like this.
If youâre a mage you probably use a light spell cause it costs like barely any mp so your game is just constantly green. It rules.
The stronger you become as a mage the bigger your green tint effect is what a game.
i mean it was one of the first games i can remember that had forests with grass and trees that moved. before in that era there were a lot of flat green textures for grass and weird triangle polygon trees. iâm getting tired and this is sounding dry and boring so idk. there were a bunch of decisions that went worse in oblivion, but for me the world was something unique and unlike anything iâd played at the time
i think this might be experience that a lot of people had with skyrim instead. iâve never played skyrim, despite (because?) of being really into morrowind and oblivion idk. my personal situation has been weird for a bunch of years
Threads that make you reconsider things
Oh, I want to make it very clear that I have never played Oblivion, and thatâs how I know how bad it is.
Freal dude play Witcher 3 if you havenât
I donât like fantasy settings. They do nothing for me, and can even be a turn off, because I think the standard aesthetic for them is ugly as sin. In general, Medieval Europe has no truck with me.
Also, youâre forgetting that I find sexuality in entertainment highly gross, unless itâs explicitly porn.
One of the reasons for that is that sexuality is very personal and specific. Just because I can go along with someoneâs murder fantasies doesnât mean I want to romance and fuck one of five creepy 3-D women they made up. You might say itâs optional or something, but you canât tell me that the game wonât be constantly like, âWait, are you sure you donât want to bang this one? WhaâWELL THEN WHO DO YOU WANT TO BANG?â
In conclusion, Iâm boycotting Witcher until they allow me to put on cursed armor that gradually turns me into a pregnant dragon, and itâs clear from facial expressions that my character DOES NOT LIKE IT, except then the wizard is like, âActually the armor reveals who you really are,â so itâs actually my characterâs fault that theyâre a dragon now.
You like Game of Thrones though
Despite the setting!
I like watching Tyrian and the enuch be catty about other characters, and I like watching lore videos about the books on YouTube.
Also, like, there is macroeconomic cause and effect in GoT (though moreso in the books). Like, sqy what you will, but it actually does proper world building: almost everything is learned by offhand comments. Theyâre mostly consistent and make sense, and the first book of lore style thing GRRM put out was from the perspective of a priest who you can tell is lying and spinning about a bunch of it.
Also, I feel obligatee to say that the show has been extra dumb for the last two or three seasons. Like, way worse than the last seasons of BSG.
Also, Westworld is already nearly peak dumb in only its second season. The first was a fun ride! The second is so insulting that I want to make you watch it.
