someone on gamefaqs claimed this is a worst candidate:
the music in the video SLAPS tho lmao - in particular the march-like bit that starts at 1:45. at least as a musical tourist contextually divorced from the game
im hearing this music and nodding and going “elle knows what they’re talking about so this must be good” but in my head all i’m seeing is John Baptiste Philouza marching back and forth in a park making trumpet noises with his lips
what i mean is someone claimed 2 games had terrible OSTs on gamefaqs
one was the one i posted
the other is:
Chokukan Night: Pro Yakyu King (N64)
this one is also awful but it isn’t interesting or iconic at all so it just sucks lol. like maybe the music is slightly more interesting but the effect is just boring
they tried to mimic the CD audio of the PS1 game but the N64 doesn’t do that* lol so instead it’s cobbled together from brief low-bitrate samples. and even those samples are too big to have the whole song (for cartridge space limitation reasons) so they just cut and pasted as much as possible
* one of the things that makes Top Gear Overdrive hypothetically more impressive…
nothing tops ancient roman in the transcends bad or good department imo the feeling of sublime confusion i experienced when hearing this for the first time is like one of the most vivid experiences of my life i love it so much
This is the gunkan march, which I recognized from parodius and had to look up what it was called (and apparently grave of the fireflies, which I haven’t seen in forever). So maybe it’s worst bc of vibes lol.
The march’s fame has endured in post-war Japan, making numerous appearances for pachinko parlors during that time.
