How far did you make it? Did you get to the jungle (5th area)? That place always freaks me out when I’m stone cold sober, wonder how that felt

she made it to the temple of the art after barely surviving some wild scrapes with a ridiculous rat minion build

it was terrifying!!

I’ve only made it to the jungle after using invisbilium to essentially skip the Hiisi Base, once. I still need to work on my wand building skills, as most of my runs wind up getting outgunned in the third area.

here’s a cool tip: if you see breath of air, it seems kinda meh right? well turns out air+fire=flamethrower lmao

I’ve been trying to play at least one game of this per day for the last month or so. If anything, I’ve regressed in terms of how well I’m doing. The ice caves in particular just tear me apart – I think part of this is that I used to just run for Holy Mountain, which I’ve realized now is just making sure that you’re almost certainly going to die in the Hiisi Base as you’ll be horribly underpowered. I’m no good at hanging around and trying to earn gold in the earlier levels though, I feel like I just eat too many hits and never find the stuff I need to make a really good wand (I think over this whole period of time I’ve made like three good wands, I can’t tell if it’s just hard with what you typically get starting out or if I’m really bad at it).

It’s still really fun to just goof around in though. L@@K A+++ Amusing Deaths, Would Die Again.

Gold’s a nicety, it’s the wands that are hanging around on the levels that are going to be the driver for keeping you alive. To that end there’s a secondary biome called the Fungus Caverns that is to the left of the Mines. Incredibly dangerous with your first introduction to damage resistant bots but in turn have wands that generate as if they were depth +2-3 from where you are. If you get used to handling that biome, or at least enough to sneak in and grab one or two wands, the ice caves feel a lot easier.

Also don’t feel like spells with charges are to be avoided. They tend to be strong enough that a single charge will kill an enemy. 25 charges for ~20 enemies is not a bad trade off!

So, given this current set of options (and I have Tinker Anywhere), is there an obvious Good Wand Setup that I’m missing?

Three chainsaws are likely overkill given they only reduce recharge time 0.17s each, so you only need one if the other spells do not increase recharge time on that third wand. And since it’s cast time is 0, there is a trick to put a chainsaw at the end of the last spell “block” to go off; the wand immediately goes into the recharge state (which is now 0 or negative) and fires again. Unfortunately you would need spells to reduce cast delay to make it fire more than ~4 shots a second.

You still could make that third wand do:
trigger spark → split shot + dual cast + firebomb + spark + chainsaw
which would be relatively mana efficient.

Your first or fourth wand could have a lightning on its own, or one of the spells with charges. And the second could host all your big spells that stay underneath the mana max of 230; it’s your “oh shit I need something dead now” unleash everything at it. The wand you have to potentially pick up fulfills a similar role, just less all at once and more bigger spells.

But nothing is particularly obviously Good, just Okay To Use.

This is tremendously helpful. I wish there was like, a web app that let you try and build wands and see what they do. I think there’s a mod for the game itself that does that? I’m not sure how to get it to work though.

I just picked up another wand at the next Holy Mountain, is there anything leaps out to you here in terms of making something more viable for the base?

There is a mod for wand building but I haven’t fiddled with it.

The only thing that jumps out at me is switching the two dual shots for the quad-scatter so you can slip on the electric modifier for your payload. You would have to worry about self-electrocution underwater as well as through metal walls/ground but it does add stun to those who aren’t immune.

  1. Again, hugely helpful, that led to my most successful run yet.

  2. Of course, “success” means, took teliportitis as a perk, and boy, that’s not a good idea. I was pretty much involuntarily zapped through the base, the jungle, and into the vault, where I got rocketed around seeing all kinds of new and scary stuff before getting melted in acid somehow.

I started playing this today

Immediately after figuring out how to change spells on wands I went “oh! I want down through this floor” and switched to my cool new plasma cutter, shot directly at my feet, and instantly vaporized myself

I approve

Just got this game and played it a bit. I am deeply proud that I got to “the vault” on my fourth run - feels like that was either the last level or close to it.

I played extremely cautiously. My main wand was one that fired a piddly projectile BUT also had an “always cast” that summoned this rock egg thing that floated around and basically self destructed on enemies. I basically just fired those off into rooms until they were empty, then moved on.

I eventually got a wand that summoned eldritch tentacles of doom - it cast this spell four times so it was just basically an “instant kill everything in this radius” spell. I think it could cast that like, 60 times? It was absurd. Also the tentacles would try and kill me to so it was basically set it up and run the hell away.

Early on I picked a perk that, like, quintupled the amount of blood that came from wounded enemies. Just pools of blood fucking everywhere, I was swimming in it. Amazing.

I eventually got cornered and electrocuted, but god damn what a game. Worth the $10 even if I never play it again.

honestly this is the most exciting game i’ve played in years, dunno how it’ll feel when i never reach the same depth after 10 more runs though lol

FINISHED IT in the stupidest possible way, game fucking rules.

massive spoilers i guess

I had exactly two things going for me this run: Invisibility, and a plasma cutter. I managed to sneak through Hisi Base, the Underground Jungle, the Vault and the Temple completely undetected except for one terrifying incident. I had no money, picked up hardly any items, and basically just avoided everything.

Got to the boss, picked up The Salt (which of course activated the boss even though i was invisible), then got the fuck out of there. I used a freezing spell to mostly stop the lavafalls on the right side and just left. I then used the plasma cutter to spend the next 10 minutes silently tunneling upwards hoping this wasn’t just an infinite plane of rock.

It was not an infinite plane of rock. I actually reached the previous level…BUT THE BOSS FUCKING CHASED ME AS SOON AS I HIT IT jesus fucking christ

good thing the plasma cutter does incredible, ungodly amounts of damage. I could have killed the bastard before if I wasn’t so terrified of losing my one good run because I melted it in about 3 seconds flat. Get fucking wrecked.

Anyway, I made it to The Work and hit the button and got the game over screen! Sort of, I actually had an “extra life” so I got that message instead but nothing happened and THEN I got the game over screen

Final stats:

Final wands:

(Absolute garbage - the first one was great when i made it since it basically fired infinite shotgun bursts but with no spread at all…but the damage it did was not very good in the last 2-3 biomes)

This is how I win games like this: utter cowardice.

Anyway now I’m allowing myself to read the Wiki and HOO BOY there’s so much shit in this game. Good lord. I don’t know if I have it in me to try and get the true ending. I probably don’t.

my best death was taking an Acid Trail spell, assigning to a shotgun-blast thingy and firing a single burst in the holy mountain, angering the gods who promptly sent a giant floating skeleton to murder me. gg

or maybe the time i had this great idea of using a water trail spell to flood places before blasting them with lightning and frying everyone, but then i something bad happened and i fell in the water and fried myself in a panic. gg

or maybe the time i got a plasma cutter and forgot my angry ghost would duplicate it and it shot me in the back and i melted. gg

or maybe the time my angry ghost would not stop making explosive crates for some reason and i ended up exploding in a pile of about 15 explosive crates. gg

what a game.
