i bet someone could make the argument that solidus looking up at the statue of washington before perishing is more apt because they were both, at their core, arrogant bumblers
i liked thimbleweed park, it had that classic kickstarter ran-out-of-money-3/4s-through feeling so i’d be down for them doing a shorter but denser Maniac Mansion kinda thing (with what i’d assume wouuld be a lot of the same assets?)

another one from my list of memorable Steam demos from last month is out now
why Act 0 is out like 6 years after Act 1 i don’t know, but cool to see. i think i described the look/feel of this as “Mixtape on acid” - similar like walking sim about nostalgia except the approach is wildly different tonally. it’s kinda jank, it’s strange, but it’s compelling. neither have seemed to get tons of notice so it’s probably worth checking out both.

“Funny story is, the title being ‘Poinpy’ was the first thing that was decided about the game, even before we had any concept for it. Me and the lead (sole) artist on the game were trying to get a project going together and we sort of jammed out ideas, one of which was his ‘Poinpee’ sketch (shown below),” explains Fumoto.
"Then I started working on pull-and-release 2D platformer controls for touchscreens to see what sort of a game could be made out of it. Then the combo mechanic, then juicing, then the beast… there were drastic changes made to all aspects of the game over the course of development, but throughout everything the title would stay as a spiritual pillar we’d look to whenever we were lost: What sort of a game would one named ‘Poinpy’ be?

Seeing words like this is violence, against me. The Xbox games were kept segmented and frequently across from the pornography (back when every store also had pornography, which I realize just now is also a thing that has passed.)
It’s surprising that the tophathipster would have these opinions.
Outside of maybe CAVE ports I’m struggling to think of a Japan only 360 game that had the Mystique of Metal Wolf Chaos on the og (or even SMT9!)
I thought the 360 did even worse than the OG in Japan
It does have more games suited for the show than its peers tho
I had a special issue of a japanese magazine (think a one-off) that was decided to OG xbox exclusives but can’t find it anymore.
I definitely remember Microsoft spending on japan dev with the original & 360 launch and in both cases seemingly giving up as soon as it wasnt an immediate blockbuster success (microsoft - giving up? after spending erratically?) but with the 360 at least having a bit more going for it in terms of exclusives across niche genres and then, I think there’s probably a lineage from stuff like xbla and the later xna “xbox live indie games” opening a space for stuff like doujin releases, Arika’s “Jewelry Master Twinkle” etc. into PSP/Vita now Switch and sometimes Steam.
