rpgmaker.net also came back from the dead in late feb of this year and while i don’t know staff personally or anything i have seen them put a lot of work in on making the place usable again and less of a ghost town
i was initially pretty despondent at the news of the forum closure, but it’s been heartening to see people give a shit. communal/institutional memory is difficult for a hobby mostly made up of teens or whatever but i do get the impression that they collectively take archival much more seriously than what i saw 20 or even 10 years ago

As someone who tried to learn RPG Maker MZ(?) a few months ago, having the official forum, side forums, and big sites that collected institutional knowledge was a huuuuuge help. That aside, I ended up hating RPG Maker because it felt like a lot of what I would assume should be basic functionality was instead locked behind paid user-made plugins (that are now all distressingly vibe coded) instead of implemented into the game engine itself through proper updates like every other good engine should be.
Anyway, I switched to RPG Maker Bakin which has a lot more features just built in instead of locked behind a thousand different plugins. The only downside is that because it’s a newer program, there isn’t decades of forum posts and instead all the experts and their knowledge are hidden in fucking Discords instead of out in the open where it would actually be easy to search.

you are having the true experience, congrats and condolences
my opinion is increasingly that anyone using more than like two scripts tops should try to learn more robust software, but that’s never really been the way of things and certainly i havent been following my own advice

Apparently DoubleFine did what Toys4Bob did and had a clause in their sale that they could buy themselves out before a shutdown.
I hope they can break free, they’d be the one to hit hard for me if they went under.
