News Thread XII: Xbox Humiliation Ritual - Part 12 the 12th

don’t make me get my hopes up :face_holding_back_tears:

the SeGaGaGa option would be funny if they get Ryoma Takeuchi back to play Kiryu, freshly unemployed after the failure of his own series.

I’d maybe just be happy with a Ragnacenty Tshirt or something

Is Sega secretly announcing a cry for help with this extremely non-specific whatever?

The website reminds me of 2010s Announcement Japanese websites for Anniversaries where nothing happens outside of a live talk show and maybe a soundtrack release.

Sega’s financial reports have mentioned working on a ‘super game’ for a while now. I believe they’re trying to make a Roblox/Fortnite with Sega IP

Sega of America finally catches up to the homebase and gives their fans the thing they’ve all been clamoring for: Sega Hard Girl merch of the Genesis

you know, Jenny. she’s a cowgirl!

That was this and they cancelled it, I believe

Sega is going to turn into Atari

They keep mentioning it even from reports from this year so I don’t think it’s Hyenas. Allegedly Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe and Crazy Taxi amongst others are part of the project

yeah, I had ISP issues shortly over getting a PS5 and eventually had to tether it to my phone to allow Hollow Knight to pass its license check (after 4 weeks or so)

everyone keeps begging sega to either release their own arcade collections or to let hamster do it, and sega just steadfastly refuses

Sega has just two real internal dev studios of their own now, Sonic Team and RGG.

Hm okay Wikipedia Sega development studios - Wikipedia says there are four “divisions”:

Sega Division 1: RGG
Sega Division 2: Sonic Team and uh reshashes
Sega Division 3: online stuff
Sega Division 4: mobile games

So aside from Like a Dragon (and they’re squeezing in VF at the moment, supposedly) from RGG and Sonic from Sonic Team, non-mobile/online stuff will largely be farmed out. Although it isn’t entirely clear how much reshashing division 2 does internally. A fair number of their current job openings セガ 第2事業部 の求人一覧 refer to “outsourcing management”–so, could be 30% or more producers managing outsourced dev teams.

Of “Super Game,” Wikipedia says it’s a collection of buzzwords “a framework of game development that has the following requirements: online, IP utilization, multi-platform, multi-language, simultaneous worldwide release and AAA,” ie “The name Super Game was chosen to differentiate it from the Metaverse”–because that collection of buzzwords famously became vaporware and for some reason they still think this won’t. ^ _^

By the numbers it probably pays more to farm out a new rehash to cheap western devs than to try selling another collection of ROMs, unfortunately.

why would Sega do arcade collections or farm them out to a third party when they can make you buy the hot new Yakuza game to play Spikeout

looking at three parasites smiling and Division 3 making money

Oh yeah dang. They got me on a couple of 'em. Blurry/laggy/bordered/options-lacking etc, no more for me.

And an even WORSE Yakuza game to play it’s inferior sequel!

am I seeing Slashout slander

Slashout is the best, it’s like if Tower of Druaga played like a janky musou

shoutout to the YT channel that’s just clears of Slashout

It’s no Spikeout…

is slashout always balanced with the assumption that there are 4 players? because every time i’ve tried to play, it’s been insanely difficult

Slashout is balanced around the idea that you or another equally insane person have noted the locations of the secret upgrades and gates and are proceeding and upgrading your character in kind
