News Thread 64 - Max Headline

The idea, on paper, was solid. Nintendo EPD Group 4 designed a host for the minigames based on international appeal: a bipedal horse that looked like a man wearing a rubber horse mask.

a tragedy!

because I sold my PS4 and probably won’t have a PS5 in the month before the servers are shut down

Wow, what IS that? I’ve somehow never heard of this game, but it looks wild.

A perverse facade of free-to-play games told inside a structure of community; a simulation of work with no reward, an experiment in anomie and sharing that always ends in tragedy

I love it and now I work with a couple people who want to strangle Dylan from being forced on this project

Probably eye emoji’d the amount of money solo creators make on Patreon.

Probably! I dunno what Patreon’s cut is, but he’s already pulling in at least $27k a month after yesterday.

Think he also said he was tired of having to manage a company while under greater corporate direction, having to spend time in meetings and go over growth and metrics and video content strategies.

I dunno, he sounded happier and more energetic to me than he has in a bit in on that podcast, so hopefully it works out.

He also plans on watching and discussing Gundam 0079, so heck yeah, I wanna hear that.

The recently released court transcripts paint an unflattering picture of Nintendo of America as insecure and unnecessarily punitive. Patel goes as far as to acknowledge the fact that they are not only inflicting a three year prison sentence upon him, but that following his release, “he will be socially isolated and financially destitute.” A situation that the DOJ admits is “very similar to [his situation] when he initially was introduced to Team Xecuter.”

yeah I fucking hate everything about this story. the judge was excited about the ‘unique opportunity’ to completely ruin someone’s life at the behest of a major corporation, after openly collaborating with the prosecutors. nice feather in his cap, a real paragon of justice.

NFT fortnight feels like a new version of dudes being insecure about being into video games and needing to justify them with what’s perceived as an adult ass financial portfolio building thing. So fucking wack. Just admit that having fun is fun.

Judging by the NFT games I’ve seen, I don’t think they know what fun is

The biggest NFT game (before it came crashing down) was apparently only “fun” if you contracted a swath of underpaid gold farmers in the Philippines to grind some sorta item to use, and then didn’t even use that item - just, uh, sold it for cash, or crypto or whatever.

Can’t wait to make pennies on the dollar for some Patrick Bateman out there, mining coal or ¢oal or whatever in the old west crypto game.

Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America’s representative, lamented the idea that parents will “be forced to explain to their children why people cheat and why sometimes games are not fair just because one person wants an unfair advantage.”

for violating the magic circle of nintendo games your punishment is, death

Singh goes on to claim that this case, and any future cases attacking piracy, will work to protect the broader gaming “community,” in which smaller developers operate on “slim margins.”

indie games cultural influence endpoint: being the thing industry lawyers can use to push for harsher prison sentences

I know you unbelievers don’t understand but last of us 1 needs remaking after 2, where they finally got the enemy encounter rate solved, hopefully it’s bringing 1’s enemy numbers in line with 2 and not just the same game with better visuals.

Port it to the Intellivision Amico, cowards

I have to assume there’s a Last Of Us Part 3, and this will either end with part 3 or have at least 2 more games. 4 games would feel like too much and not enough. 6 is right out. I refuse to play these games because I value my time
