is this a bit? i know kiryu doesn’t kill but is there actually anywhere where he talks about not using guns? you can pick up and fire guns in literally every one of those games. and sometimes he hops on chain gun turret thing when he needs to too
but anyway yeah uh why did he get a whole new face? or is that just his suit and hair as a skin on an iconic Rainbow Six Siege character i’m not familiar with??

honestly the siege character design WAS iconic (just like the sound design, and the level design, and and and), the biggest knock against it is that you kind of cannot make timeless iconic milsim heroes, those fellas already only look at all distinguishable to a very specific audience slice, and they’re like 7 years into trying to make a live service game work with diminishing returns
they should probably do like a street fighter sequel thing at this point where only half the cast returns
Does Siege make a strong case for predefined characters instead of making it a kit and letting the player own their looks, other than a route to fit in hero-shooter style fandom? It seems like a much better fit for most games that need helmets.
a pretty strong case, yeah! the first 2 or 3 years worth all have great GI Joe personalities, many of them have totally unique abilities that wouldn’t fit on another character (and, crucially, it’s important to be able to predict who you’re going up against when eg the walls can be dynamited), and where they do overlap, usually it’s like, “well, they both have the same SMG as a backup, so you might know how that gun works, but this guy can’t equip a scope on his, or this guy has really bad recoil on his”
a videogame thing I think about all the time is kiryu’s chapter is him spending the first hour uselessly punching and kicking zombies over and over before finally with great reluctance using a gun, and then still not tolerating slurs against zombies because of his respect for human life
meanwhile majima’s chapter is him seeing a zombie and saying “I’ve been waiting for this shit!!” and grabbing the shotgun from under the couch cushion he was sitting on
