News Thread 10: Beautiful Posts

The 2013 game has been completely redone to fit my current vision of traditional arcade game design. It’s denser (more levels but less overall length), with better pacing, mechanics and a proper scoring system.

locomalito + gryzor87 = bliss

Reminds me of an urban homesteader sealing the lids on jars of fruit-and-sugar paste. ‘preserve’ is definitely gross.

just saw that Project Warlock II came out of early access a couple of days ago

i definitely enjoyed the first one with some caveats (repetitive/boring boss battles and some other stuff). but what i played of early access of 2 i wasn’t nearly as enthused by. from the trailer it seems way more … i dunno Doom Eternal-core or something vs. the charming quaintness of the first one. still might check it out because i still have it from early access. seems like it’s on sale now too.

Picked it up 'cause it was on sale and it’s definitely… it feels way more aggressive than the first.

Like… more running-jumping-shooting, juggling weapons… IDK if I’d say it’s very DOOM Eternal exactly, but it definitely wants you thinking about your arsenal and not waiting for reloads. From what I understand things get way nastier and faster paced after the first episode, though I haven’t gotten that far yet.

I always kinda felt the first one was taking more from Wolfenstein 3D than it did from DOOM, but this might be more Quake(I guess, I’ve not played it personally). There’s a good bit of platforming for secrets and level skips here. Enemies definitely seem much more aggressive (both in behavior, and spawning/tempo/etc.). Oh, there’s also a lot of auto-checkpointing and tends to be pretty forgiving with 'em.

IDK what else to add, maybe I’ll have more to say in a few levels. I don’t hate it, at least.

Reminds me of Pierce Brosnan. I would imagine a lot of Hitman DNA would have been used as a starting base for this, so I’m curious how the game would have evolved from there.
