New Wilmot is now also on Switch after a 2024 Itch & Steam release

It’s really good. We just played two hours with my wife, passing the controller

The only VG merch I want is that Wilmot tote bag, so Wilmot might be my favorite videogame series

Not a bad lineup. Japan gets the same four this time around.

Been waiting for them to bring back Survival Kids since the 3DS virtual console…

(yeah I saw the Switch 2 trailer, lets not speak of that)

why would you get Survival Kids Again when the hot Konami game for the Switch 2 launch is Shine Post: Be Your Idol

I don’t get why people are acting like this is a problem or even unusual.

maybe the most boring, perpetually failing forward director of the 21st century so far, with not a single good film to his name and yet he keeps getting these huge budgets to make movies people forget about in about a month. let’s be real who is going to remember “warfare” in a year or ten

I didn’t even remember it right now

Not sure where else to put this but, yeah, this blog articulates a lot of my feelings about the game industry lately

The takeaway a lot of people will have is “indies will save gaming” ignoring the precarity of the situation. Keogh mentioning that what’s happening in the US has happened pretty much everywhere else. I do need to finish “The Game Industry Does Not Exist” at some point too because it was a pretty good read.

Kinda dont want my life’s pursuit being relegated to a hobby but I don’t see a more viable path. (thinking of that FarAwayTimes blog about making small games). Especially given that even though I’ve been a game designer for a pretty long time the amount of actual “Designing” I’ve done has been really really limited at best.

feels bad that I was there for the great indie explosion of the late 00s and I had a game design degree and knew how to kludge things together with flash and XNA but didn’t do anything with it. Like I had made my way to California and had the shovel but was too lazy to dig. I guess it’s just as well that probably would have turned me into a turboasshole

there’s a line in that blog talking about how publishing companies with hundreds of employees are just as good at mismanaging their talent as they are at maximizing it and it really made me think about when the dream quest dev (peter whelan) got hired by blizzard to work on the hearthstone version of that, like a single player deckbuilding situation, and then i just have never heard of anything he’s done ever again, i think he’s now at riot working on teamfight tactics and like, bleh

dream quest is a game i’ll probably never forget? teamfight tactics is a game i’m forced to remember

I thank my lucky stars my early aspirations for a similar kind of indie success were cut short by the harshness of reality becoming basically unignorable ~2014. I would have certainly become that exact turboasshole otherwise… (Just a regular asshole these days :tipping_hand_man:)

The hobbyist game dev/regular day-job balance can be a tough one to crack (any job it turns out still kinda sucks and absorbs far too much of your time), but it is at least nice not to have the enormous stupid pressure of trying to win the hit game lottery and having the security of some money to keep a roof over my head while I do whatever the hell I want with my personal projects :space_invader:

Cover art looks like it’s riffing off that Amazon video game show that did the Pac-Man episode.

Game seems to be an even more radical reimagining of PAC-Man than Championship Edition. Who could have guessed such a feat was even possible. Well played, Bandai Namco.

that amazon episode was made as an advertisement for this new game
