I guess they have enough Destiny money lying around to absorb at least one major boondoggle
Apogee is a total vibe Iâm glad thereâs another appreciater on SB
Apogee and Bio Menace in particular were my main jam as a kid when I was playing tons of DOS shareware
My immediate mental association with Apogee is Blake Stone
as a kid i liked the shareware episode so managed to convince my parents to send out a money order for Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold because it was still at the tail end of that era where you had to do money orders. i remember excitedly anticipating what the new Blake Stone levels would be like. i think Wolfenstein 3D ruined my expectations for a lot of other games because we had the full version somehow and every episode feels so different from the last in that game. and the shareware episode of Wolfenstein 3D is arguably the worst (outside of maybe episode six). most games are not like that!
but yeah it turned out Blake Stone is one of the many Apogee games where the shareware episode was arguably the best episode and they slowly ran out of ideas for the rest. many such cases. at some point we also ordered the full versions of Duke Nukem 2 which was fine but underwhelming and Secret Agent, which i liked. dunno why i didnât ever bother them about getting the full Commander Keen or Jill of the Jungle which i liked at the time and are both worthwhile all the way through. but yeah, as with most people - most of my childhood Apogee/Epic experiences are with the shareware versions.
the first time i got a horrible neck sprain was from hunching over that fucking duke nukem platformer
abrasive sound fx etched in brain
the level design in those games was sorta like some perfect balance of exploration and forward momentumâŠand that sort of non-metroidvania attitude of âpower-ups make you stronger but you can do fine without them if you wantâ
Very adjacent, but thereâs a Dangerous Dave worship game in the works and itâs in open playtest.
so tl;dw this is an âextraction shooterâ? why?
feast yr eyes on the dedicated topic
i do like that this one while obvs heavily inspired by Dangerous Dave appears to be kind of its own game as well. there havenât been many contemporary indie Apogee/early Epic nostalgia platformers but the ones iâve seen that exist tend to be pretty straight down the line. more âitâs obligatory this should existâ rather than doing anything with it. so glad that doesnât seem to be the case here.
waiting patiently for the Clydeâs Adventure nostalgia reboot.
unbelievably excited for this
what a fuckin debut for his new studio. im pumped as shit
I had no idea Yuasa left Science Saru! Wonder if GITS was the straw that broke the camels back?
a couple weeks ago he said he wanted a little rest after working so hard for seven years straight before his next work
