Impossible to endorse corporal punishment for outsmarting a company. Even outside of ableism, I think we can all conceive of reasons an 18 year old might be self-interested, reckless, and short-sighted. Unfortunate for the employees but if you tell me vulnerabilities in corporate security allowed a clever focused teen to jam up a series of huge systems, I donāt exactly think the most thoughtful response is, got it ā lock em up!

Fundamentally this is turning into an issue of if you think imprisonment works or not, does locking people up actually help them or the victims, and literally most people on here are not going to agree that it does, because most of us are American, and perhaps you know that in America we lock people up for slight provocations and manufactured reasons. Most of our prisoners come out much more fucked up than they were before. Itās hard for us to justify things like life imprisonment because here we treat it so casually that weāll throw anyone in prison forever that itās hard to trust the state on matters like this, because our prison system is centered around punishment and profit and not like, actual restorative justice.

they just wanna send a message. the person doesnāt matter to them, they donāt actually care that he said heād commit crimes again it just makes them look more credible
when I was arrested I went to court with someone who was getting their third strike for stealing a fucking candy bar. he was 19 and going away for fucking life. they asked if he was sorry and he said no of course, its a fucking candy bar and heās getting put away for life for it. when you have a system stacking against you on purpose why would you feel any remorse towards it? the fact that anyone is defending Rockstar losing a few dollars after what they do to their employees is nuts. how is a leak even in the same ballpark as the sweatshop Rockstar runs

I remember when the music industry was cracking down on peer to peer networks like Napster and they threw the book at some poor woman who downloaded a few songs and gave her actual prison time and there was a big enough public outcry over it that they kind of backed off from doing that sort of thing going forward.
Kind of doubt weāll ever see the same kind of reaction in the tech world where large portions of the audience actually identify with these companies to the point of defending them in the discourse lol.

it was wizards of the coast who sent the pinkertons after someone, and not even for any actual ācrimeā: it was a paying customer who, due to some kind of mix up, had got a box of new magic the gathering cards a week or two early, and posted pictures online
