Leaker said thereās a game in the direct named after a MATLAB function and some brave soul went āFinal Fantasy Tactics? Fast Fourier Transformation? Am I right?ā
sitting in on the meeting for this and theyāre just writing $TRAY on the whiteboard and underlining it a bunch?? mysterious
THIS IS THE ONE BABY
F-ZERO LIVES
20 YEARS SINCE GX
OUR FAITH SHALL BE REWARDED
this is Cpt. Falconās Twister Race erasure
Iām not discounting any other F-Zero products, just pointing out that itās conveniently GXās 20th anniversary this year
hasnāt anyone stepped in to do an offbrand f-zero in all this time?
if they did one that was also an oban star racers license, iād buy that. but no-one ever will
thereās a demo if you google āaero gpx kickstarter demoā, the link is slightly obfuscated, probably to filter out weirdos lol
this game is mostly riffing on F-Zero X, specifically, which is fine with me. that one is effectively just as good as GX despite not getting nearly as much credit
X is good, probably the best racer on the system, but it deserves a lot of credit for the programmers holding a gun to the N64ās CPU and going āyou will run this game at 60 fpsā
something to mention re: why arenāt there fan-made f-zero games (note that there are plenty of mods for existing games to add new tracks, etc.)
a problem with the possibility of āoff-brand f-zeroā is a huge part of what makes f-zero good is how meticulous and uncompromising it is, how tuned the controls are, how congruous the track design is with the mechanics (you get hit in the face with this one real fast once you start playing some of the aforementioned fan levels)
āoff-brandā in some ways inherently screws with the pluses of the series
See also store brand attempts at Advance Wars.
maybe iāve not looked in the right places but Iāve seen more games take from wipeout than fzero
I feel thereās one or three attempts at F-Zero out there but I might also be conflating them with Wipeout likes. I have not played enough of either to really determine which is which at a passing glance.
Part of what makes F-zero for me is the characters and setting. Fzero X also had a fucking great metal soundtrack. I feel like these are things that are really missing from Fzero-alikes. Mute City has a music track and a general feel. The pilots are all heros/villains and they kind of have fun with the characterization. Itās not just antigrav racing.
BallisticNG, Redout/2, Pacer - much more similar to WipEout than F-Zero
i like to think every time hayao miyazaki announces his retirement its because heās picked up some new hobby that heās really jazzed about, and declares⦠i am leaving animation behind to grow exotic roses full time!!! and then after a few months just experiences some petty failure or gets momentarily bored, so then heās just like āfuck this bullshit! more cartoons!!ā
At this point I think itās all a marketing plot like bands having 6 farewell tours
I constantly say shit I donāt do itās just normal
Whether itās a remaster of GX or a new game, they need to retain the design where the game has like 50 cars but you only start with 4 and have to unlock the rest over the course of playing. Just so I can see people complain about it.
