Yea I had somehow missed all that! So it hit me all at once pretty much. As much as I hate it maybe multiple shots of a pig eating vomit really is the most fitting way to advertise their game now who knows

Slightly old news–93.4% Saudi (MBS) ownership of EA came out on Dec 2nd:

EA announced plans for a leveraged buyout and will become privately owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake and Affinity Partners for $55 billion in September 2025, including $20 billion in debt equity. If completed, it would be the largest leveraged buyout to date. The deal is expected to close by June 2026, pending regulatory approval and shareholder agreement.[5][6][7] A regulatory filing in Brazil revealed the PIF would own 93.4%, Silver Lake 5.5% and Affinity 1.1%.[8]

Honestly they’ll have to include a LOT to make Space Invaders worth the price.

It’s just too simple and has too many releases.

I’ve noticed they’ve done Switch 2 versions of some very archaic games already too. What’s in these that justifies the price hike?

each release is one game: this is space invaders, all alone. presumably, they wanted to do an iconic game for the 500th in the series, even if it’s one very few people will want to buy. people have been theorising that that’s why outfoxies came out this week: a big exciting game to make up for the not so exciting announcement.

the more expensive arcade archives games either involved more licenses (because of anime characters etc.), or more difficult (presumably bespoke to the game) emulation. people get excited about them because in many cases (like outfoxies), they’re the first time decades-old games have received home ports of any kind. though emulated, the emulation is better than mame, and in the case of games that use analogue or other controls more complicated than a digital joystick and buttons, they’re already calibrated to be as close to playing the original as possible.
it’s to the extent that the arcade archives release of aqua jet has optional motion controls accurate enough that it’s possible to build your own fake jetski cabinet thing at home, if you’re insane.

there’s also a subseries called “arcade archives 2”, which add online play, and i think are maybe only on switch 2 and ps5?

After dozen years rotten and naked corruption of EA, it’s hard to said that’s not a good sign. It’s also entertaining to watch the hysteria of FIFA white boys on YouTubers last month.

I’m very glad they bring back a new Fatal Fury of SNK, it would be better without Siuuu.

I played the demo during a nexfest. The frame work and tech of controlling the character from 2 perspectives seamlessly is amazing but from what the demo showcased its all between a series of fetch quests and stage triggers losing the tension of being in a hostile environment ala RE4 and such.

Maybe it was a vertical slice and showcase of what they had at the time or maybe it is just a flow of consciousness narrative mystery all the way through.

I wonder if this uses any of the new music arrangements Matt Gray has been releasing over the past few years. They are very good.

THIS IS soooooooo ORIENTALIST! CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE PLS!

PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console, dethroning the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time since its June launch.

NEX Playground ranked third, followed by Xbox Series X|S. Speaking to IGN, Circana’s Mat Piscatella said sales for the console were down 70% year-over-year – an “all-time low” for unit sales in a November month in the US.

Bolding mine; hadn’t heard of this now third-best-selling console before.

What on earth… who here’s going to take one for the team and buy a NEX Playground so we can have a thread about it?
