itās funny you cite these because they portray the kkk as bumbling fools more likely to set themselves on fire than the gangs of terrorists they actually were. Itās a great example of how badly that game portrays race relations of the time when it inexplicably decides itās worth addressing. Maybe the most distressingly surface level view of the south in 1899 ever presented. Mafia 3 was way better about this even though it feels like it starts to revel in black misery after a certain point

If thereās a 4X game called The Rise and Fall of KKK and allows player manage the original KKK to expand and develop, thoroughly expose their more than 150 years of collusion and crimes with well-designed system instead of TNO module. The opening scene starts from the voice of Lincoln, words quote from āAddress on Colonization to a Deputation of Colored Menā.
But it never happens, videogame is always stay as much war propaganda style as it is a simple keep āshooting orcsā. Leave hard works to the books.

there were several big discontinuities in the history of the KKK so I feel like each era of the klan would have to be treated as a separate style of game. The original reconstruction-era klan was a pure terrorist movement, the klan of the 1910s-40s was a multi-level marketing scheme as much as it was a terrorist organization built around racial and religious hatred, and the many organizations called the klan that emerged in the 50s and 60s and are still around today are much more marginal but proportionally more violent than the 2nd klan
I would argue that its appropriate to portray the 2nd klan as a bunch of bumbling fools (it was so pathetic that a superman radio show was able to cause a steep decline in membership by ridiculing them) but none of the other eras

I did a big paper on one of the local branches in this era, and itās a big mix of these guys being both giant fuck ups who couldnāt cover their tracks and major self aggrandizers. But yeah, a lot of it was about selling the robes MLM style.

not going to give them credit for writing the easiest possible stuff to get brownie points (you can be mean to a former slaveowner! the kkk guys are dumb! etc etc) when an entire chapter of the game takes place in a segregationist shithole and the most you hear about it from the people of color in your camp is when youre playing dominoes with them and they complain about not being able to go to the saloon and then it barely ever comes up in practice

out today
played the demo awhile back - i liked it! i previously played Vomitoreum and thought it was pretty solid but nothing amazing but this one is probably the most substantial of this personās games so far.
