Still remember this movie’s release teaching me that my father is a huge fan of Clive Cussler’s DIRK PITT® ADVENTURES® because he was incensed @ McConaughey’s casting. Not HIS Dirk Pitt®!
Feels even more strongly about Willem Dafoe as TOM CLANCY’S® JACK CLARK® in Phillip Noyce’s TOM CLANCY’S® CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER®
I actually thought it was a good stupid fun time when I saw it in theaters.
I still remember a part where evil white businessguy is talking to his sub-Saharan generalissimo partner in crime and expresses some kind of anxiety that they’ll be caught. The general responds, “Don’t worry. This is Africa. Nobody cares about Africa.” Pretty deep insight on world affairs from a movie emanating originally from the colonizerverse
the velvet vampire is nominally part of the cycle of lesbian vampire cycle of films from the early 70’s but actually directed and co-written by a woman. full of post-sexual revolution male anxiety, budget surrealism and straight-faced camp. recommend
