i watched Eva 3.33 today for the first time after some people here told me itās the āgood oneā and i think theyāre right! i definitely liked it more than 1.0 or 2.0, for sure, although it felt kind of short and like not a lot of things really happened?

Iāve been meaning to watch the Eva rebuild movies. If I watched them with my gf who has never seen any Eva, would she have any idea whatās going on? Are they at all accessible to a newcomer?

itās been years since iāve seen 1.0 and 2.0 (with like, years between those), but from what i recall - 1.0 is basically the same as the series, without a lot of the interstitial stuff (long elevator scene etc., DDR), which is my favorite part of Eva. 2.0 changes things up a bit but is also mostly the same for likeā¦80% of it.
i donāt think you need to have watched the series, but the movies lack the character development of the series, so they might feel a bit hollow to someone who has no familiarity?
and for what itās worth, i donāt like 1.0 or 2.0 very much.

My wife and I had our weekly digital date night. We watched Killing Them Softly. We both forgot we had watched Killing Them Softly, somehow, and it was an extremely eerie experience akin to deja vu to see these flashes of images, or lines, or characters, or plot that I almost remembered but whose connective tissue I had absolutely no memory of.
Anyway, Killing Them Softly is a recession movie and watching it right now in the middle of the covid pandemic on the way to a global depression, it is at like Robocop levels of prophetic. For my money, a better Sad Old Shitty Gangster movie than The Irishman. And shorter, too

killing them softly is one of my fav movies
this is the motivation I have to finally watch this movie after owning it on bluray for years.
I remember liking Killing them Softly, which surprised me because I thought the Jesse James movie was one of the least interesting things Iād ever seen.
By now Iām super tired of movies about stoic introspective hitmen though. I appreciated that The Irishman was actually a movie about being a contract killer rather than a movie that uses that as some kind of stand-in for the honest working man or whatever.
I mean The Irishman is also about that, but I felt like it at least attempted to deal with psychological consequences more specific to being an actual mass murderer than most of these movies do

I saw Eva 2.0 in a theater full of couples in Ikebukuro. The last 20 minutes of it are super fucking intense and fun seeing all them shellshocked silently leaving the theater.

im watching brawl in cellblock 99 and its like what if a steven seagal movie had good acting and fighting and an interesting plot and THE MOST DEVIOUS BLACKMAIL SCHEME EVER its good so far

i was making jokes, because the build up of the movie is so deliberate that like OH MY GOD WHEN HE FINALLY GETS TO THE BRAWL THE MOVIE IS JUST GONNA CUT TO CREDITS WITH A FACE PUNCH oops oops
anyway this is one of my favorite movies now. awesome soundtrack, really good lighting and the way it went from believable prison to VIDEOGAME SEX DUNGEON was hilarious. the side character battle lines all hit and made me laugh (CORNER POCKET GRENADE)

s. craig zahler is one of my favorite recent directors, this and bone tomahawk were so fucking good. the first hour is like blue collar michael mann shit and then it turns into the prisoner
Do yourself a favor and watch every Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins movie, theyāre not all amazing but theyāre all a good time
When the jail decided all of a sudden to force us all to do a stupid safety training even though weād all been going to the jail for years the presenter, when trying to impress upon us the scary ways that inmates can make weapons out of seemingly innocent objects, played the bathroom fight scene from Cell Block 99. It did not have the desired effect
