Heroman just absolutely pounding Sarah Silverman’s face is one of the most special moments in cinema
I liked gemini man except for how all the outdoor daytime scenes looked just like late 2018-19 google street view imagery where all the greenery looks neon. it was a better boomer vs millennial movie than the lighthouse
okay everyone’s right about john wick 2 it totally lived up to the hype and the casting was way better in this one
WHO TRAINS THESE DOGS???
2 is easily my favourite I think
it was super good. the weak ass stupid smart tv was doing this ugly ass framerate increase and it made the cg even worse looking but we figured out how to turn it off holy shit why would an option like that ever be available on anything
3 has a whole sequence built partly around a Wick-allied character with attack dogs.
Lots of dog stunts.
Lots of dog tackles.
Lots of dog grapples.
Little Women was great, and my fascination with Florence Pugh continues to grow. She has the range, people!
she really is the May Queen
I also enjoy that 2/2 movies of hers I’ve seen include her setting something on fire in revenge.
holy shit they taught halle berry to train her own dogs, which means keanu probably actually bonded with his two
The beginning of Sword In The Stone has the atmosphere I associate with theme parks. Then outside the squirrel thing is a real nothing movie.
yeah Sword in the Stone is definitely a “How was child-me so entertained by such a dull movie?” type of rewatch. It does get better though iirc
Robin Hood holds up
I saw two movies over the weekend
6 Underground was godawful. All of the characters sucked, the action was impossible to follow, and the plot awful. And it was way way too long. Also they never once used the sneaker pimps song
Detective Pikachu was… Actually pretty good? Good plane movie for sure. I’d prefer it if ryan reynolds was pikachu in every movie he was in from now on, it might have redeemed 6 underground
I was thinking today about how the legacy of Sword in the Stone is 1. people bitching about shitty Disney HD upscales of their older animated films that no one cares about and 2. that the girl squirrel has a fan art following where she’s human and still wants to fuck Arthur (but they’re both kids so it’s cute and stuff instead of horny)
the xerox era was kind of a mess, huh
The Bluray of SitS looked great actually. I lolled at seeing animator notes and scribbles.
I mean the film wasn’t good but that was. It’s not even a film.
The squirrel part is great. She’s so sad!
I think the discourse when they were pumping the older stuff out was that movies were either plopped out with no work done to them and it looked like an actual film transfer or the film was upscaled or DNR’ed to within an inch of its life (something that would be readily apparent with the linework in 60s and 70s Disney films)
I thought Mad Madam Mim was pretty fun
i saw detective pikachu in theatres cuz i couldnt be home while they fixed my kitchen and it really surprised me! the noir stuff was lovingly done
i think all the pokemon work as weird cg monsters and i dunno if i want a detective pikachu sequel but i wouldn’t mind like, movies about other pokemons lives in that city
I was legit disappointed to see that his dad didn’t just remain a pikachu
