MUWT 2: The Quickening

I watched the first nightmare on elm street movie and I loved it. the main character ruled and freddys a great antagonist and I got to see johnny Depp turn into a geyser of blood and I love that being about dreams means they can do whatever the fuck they want. it’s just a very entertaining movie and im very much looking forward to more of freddys antics

today I went to see Parasite with a friend, expecting it to be a sci-fi film based on an anime or something, and was pleasantly surprised

When the kid is given the rock by his friend near the start I was like “ah right, that must be a meteorite shard containing alien organisms or something”

I watched this recently and was very surprised at how well it still holds up.

Black Narcissus was a lot more interesting than I expected it to be. The color is also a lot better than I’d expect from a movie from 1947 – there are parts where the coloring on the edges of clothes and objects are sort of off or will be haloed by red or green, which can give them a nice, sort of ethereal look. Watched primarily because Kathleen Byron is very pretty even when she’s made up to look ill and unstable.

The Broadcast footage in Joker was more accurate than in OUATIH and can’t believe that is true but it is.

Powell & Pressburger for life

I watched Birdbox and it was fine. I feel like if they’d have pumped up some of the other characters a bit more and maybe told us a teeny bit more about what was going on: the whole thing could have been a lot more effective. And I guess if we are going to compare it to A Quiet Place, well that one was much more carefully directed.

Sandra Bullock is great though and I’d love to see more movies with her. Really, ever since she reminded us how good she is, with The Blind Side in 2009.

Oh yeah, I also watched about 2/3 of Always Be My Maybe.

It was GLACIAL and sterile and any semblance of character felt only partially formed. I’m cool with romantic comedies, in general. And have some faves. But this was pretty poor.

i saw birdbox and thought it was asinine. hank

it felt like watching the happening but with better acting, so it was worse. and i think the happening is a real piece of shit, but the way everybody performs in that movie is so bizarre that it’s kind of funny. (what? no!)

Yeah, the more I think about it, the less I like it. I finished it though, which is something, with me. I often don’t finish stuff anymore, if I’m REALLY not enjoying it.

i think part of it is i also can’t stand sandra bullcock.

I def agree that one of the issues is that for a monster movie, there’s no monster. And they said the reason they decided not to show it, is because the monster is weird and dumb looking. and there was a shot of one which circulated.

So…design a better monster?

it really was great. It was the first of his films that didn’t feel to me like it had more malice than it knew what to do with; he finally stuck the landing while making a basically fun movie

I think the housekeeper basically makes the whole thing work after the first half

I re-watched Rogue One and yeah man, that’s a good one. And having just recently re-watched the original trilogy: its as good as those.

The Mandalorian has the same cinematographer. Real excited about that.

they should’ve just added a lovecraft spin to it and had some talk about elder gods and shit and that’s why people lose their minds and shit when they see them. maybe nyarlathotep shows up at some point. get rid of sandra b.
