i was curious but read a plot synopsis and seemed somethig trying to be purposefulyl wacky a la cabin the woods
the premise never escalates beyond the trailer.
Iām watching (Fast &) Furious 7. About halfway through and its on its way to being 100 times better than Fast and Furious 6.
Yeah Furious 7 was pretty darn good.
Also, it was Paul Walkerās last movie and he died during production. Butā¦the way they were able to cut the movie, heās in the entire thing and it doesnāt seem forced, at all. Real nice send off for him, at the end.
Oh yeah, I watched Alien: Covenant, like a week ago.
It was a decent movie, if taken on its own. Great casting. Solid performances.
However, I had some big problems with it, when taken as part of the series.
-
Just like Prometheus, it had several moments of people (specialized crew for re-colonization etc) making idiotic choices, which are insulting to the viewer.
-
It pretty much blasts right over a bunch of stuff Prometheus tried to setup. And while Prometheus could have been better on execution; The implications were at least better than where they decided to actually go with Covenant.
-
They were stupid to not give Noomi Rapace another story to star in.
-
I just do not like the direction they took things, specifically. But also, the general idea that the alien is not the only monster. Fassbender is real good. But do that with a different series. It really feels like someone had an interesting idea about autonomous robots and they just spot welded that onto an Alien title.
Every time Covenant comes up I have to do my rant about how the only thing it does well is revisit the āhaunted house in spaceā concept of the first movie by finally giving the the series a creepy Vincent Price āIf any one of you can make it through the night in my house of horrors, the prize of one million dollars will be yours!ā type character in the form of Fassbenderās evil twin
the movie succeeds and fails entirely on the basis of whether or not you think this is something the Alien series needs
no it does two things well
it also kills its james franco immediately
The cargolifter scene is good and it is the one scene I can never find on youtube.
The best thing I can say about Dark Phoenix, is that despite all the crazy effects and stunts they try to jam into superhero movies nowadays: I enjoyed how they kept Cyclops as a guy who just stiffly runs up to things, puts his finger on his visor, and blasts.
i watched ābacurauā today with a couple of friends.
in the most bare sense, the story is about a game. this gameās setting is one place, that looks and sounds like a real place. there are three players. only one of the players is aware of this game from the begining, the others are forced into it.
this might be the weirdest film iāve ever seen and, like, i donāt mean it in a mocking way i swear. you look at it, thereās so many things happening at the same time. the storyās setup is pure nonsense (it reminds a little of jordan peeleās āget outā, for the sake of reference). the protagonists are all absurd. there are bursts of extreme violence and nudity all over. the production values are actually high!
watching it, i had the impression this movie was made in a machine. that the people who worked on it know a lot about making movies and treated it like an assembly line: hereās suspense, a scene with it works like this and lasts about this long. hereās a caricature, it talks like that. and because itās made by certain people and is about things, every element just gushes out. you either accept this or donāt, i guess.
the only complaint i have - and i know this is recurrent w the director - is that they canāt avoid the most topical social commentary peppered here and there. itās not even particularly good commentary, even though itās righteous.
thereās only a handful of songs in the soundtrack. one of them is by john carpenter. another is by spandau ballet. the others are folk-brazilian music. itās a mess. i kind of love it
has anyone here ever seen the bollywood classic Sholay
because it is absolutely out of control
one of those āwe put everything in this movie just to be safe in case movies stopped existing afterwardā
the action cinematography alone is ridiculously creative but thatās far from all of it
entire charles bronson arcs are included in flashbacks
thereās a whole brief early subplot with a villain who is explicitly written as Gay Hitler
one battle scene comes closer to sunset riders than any american western Iāve seen
all of the bollywood dance numbers start out of nowhere like normal but then they always transition back to the filmās regular chronology with a violent explosion, except for the first one which is about the importance of male friendships
they were apparently really chuffed to be able to advertise the first 70mm indian film but they couldnāt afford 70mm cameras so instead they just shot it on 35mm in 4:3 and cropped it so it would look like cinemascope
the male leads both look like fonzie
I showed my girlfriend and her best friend Okja tonight and now theyāre both pissed at me. They did say itās a good movie, but theyāre still pissed.
Although decent, Toy Story 4 is completely inessential. And lacked many gags/sequences where the toys were creatively bound by the rules of their toy-ness and specific designs. Most of the actions in this one were completely free from many restrictions.
However, the visuals are astounding. Quite a leap over previous Pixar entries. And there was a DQ slime.
i watched a documentary that i THOUGHT was gonna be about a bunch of blackjack advantage players but it turned into following a dude getting banned from every casino in america for being too good
it also went really indepth with strategy and charts, so it had a LITTLE chart party flavor to it
im really enjoying scrolling SUPER FAR through the documentaries on amazon til you get to like, the self published ebook equivalent of docs
there was this one about some youtuber, and a lot of it was just small town slice of life peppered with 'im not racist, butās
i checked out the guys channel and he only has 300 subscribers! how do i sneak a documentary on amazon prime
i just watched prayer of the rollerboys, and it is such a selectbutton movie

this movie screams michael bay aesthetics, and i feel sorry for the rude comparison⦠but it really does.
We got em
