I just noticed a really subtle one.
This prologue to Ecco The Dolphin: Defender of the Future is definitely an homage to the opening narration of the 70’s rock opera Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds.
The Ecco narrator is clearly doing an impression of Richard Burton’s narration, and they even threw in a little reference for the real heads:
Jeff Wayne:
Across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes.
Ecco:
Creatures known only as The Foe regarded the earth with envious eyes.
