YEAH!! ISABELLE HUPPERT CINEMAS FINEST PERVERT
GxK New Empire: why is Godzilla’s name in the title if all he is is a glorified plot device
well, at any rate, I’m glad to have another deeply silly and extremely stupid Kong movie
Boy Kills World: I liked the part where the gestalt of Bill Skarsgard and H Jon Benjamin murdered a bunch of dudes (this is most of the running time)
lorenzo’s oil is my new favorite george miller movie. what if the exorcist were 2.5 hours of linda blair getting those medical tests done?
I love how ambiguous her thoughts were at times. There are so many things she does which seem contradictory, but that’s just true to how people deal with shit. Horny and annoyed are a combination I relate to on a personal level.
I watched Righting Wrongs last night and Logan tonight and I am 2 for 2 for movies this week where everyone brutally gets murdered
oh man the end of that movie is fucking so black pilled, the misery in the last third of that movie is hard to match
Challengers was incredibly fun. The best experience I’ve had in theatres maybe ever. Flocks of girls and their friend groups delightfully chattering the whole time. Just nonstop energy. Great soundtrack.
Went to see Civil War last night. I thought it was pretty good, overall. The negative comments I’d heard in a few places didn’t deter me from wanting to see it in the theater because they tended to sound like they were disparaging the movie for not being a different type of movie than what it is.
I thought it was an interesting and probably a good choice to keep the specifics behind the conflict somewhat ambiguous (even a little incoherent). Had it been more concretely rooted in current events with “something to say” in the way some people seem to have wanted it to, that version of the movie likely would have been obnoxious and facile. (I haven’t read any reviews or any interviews with the director, and I likely won’t bother.)
There were contrivances, but no more than in most movies. What I found compelling:
- Some of the action/tension scenes
- The depiction of what it might be like to be a war photographer
- Simply showing how this type of situation might play out in the U.S., whether or not this version is realistic
That said, if one of the central messages is simply that we (the U.S. and other countries) might want to avoid letting things reach that point, then it’s maybe a little surprising that it doesn’t go further. For example, with no vehicles on the roads, how is anyone getting food and supplies in the dense urban areas? Seems like that would lead to more chaos than we see even if the events all take place in a very short timeframe.
Isn’t 28 Years Later supposed to be coming out soon?
i had a double date to see challengers lol between this and the curse i don’t know what it is but the thirty year olds are really getting into cuckolding and dick measuring and i think that’s wonderful. i liked it it had some good shots. not something i say about every new movie that comes out!
definitely thought this was gonna be a variation on the meme where Leo in Titanic shows Kate his book and it’s full of Pokemon cards.
yeah the hunger still owns, they’re not topping this
imagining how fucking pleased with myself i’d be if this was the first feature film i’d made
Time Bandits was pretty fun
Past Lives — jesus, that got me out of nowhere! Also hard to believe she also played that role in Matrjoshka and is indeed the same actress, you just wouldn’t believe it…
hated monkey man, every shot was TOO FUCKING CLOSE PLEASE GET AWAY, also it was pure vanity also they drowned out zakir hussein for melodramatic generic music that was accomplishing the same shit as his song but worse
hated love lies bleeding, the least sexy Kristen Stewart has ever been, probably cuz she’s the least convincing top ever. also all the CHECKMARKS FOR THE GIRLIE’S TO GET IT and stupid a24 magical bullshit was dumb
you know what I loved though? jlos fucking unhinged musical 20 million dollar therapy session. that shit ruled
I liked Monkey Man but I agree, I am extremely over extreme closeups.
was ed harris good at least?
phoned it in. he eats a bug, he shoots a gun, he has gross hair. i guess. he doesnt REALLY eat the bug though
it’s possible i’ll still end up watching both of these when they’re cheap rentals or on streaming, but this sort of confirms my preconceived bias that no one knows how to make movies like this, anymore
I really think people’s standards for movies have dropped through the floor because of how bad marvel is or covid flipped a switch in their taste or something. it makes no sense. I feel like a complete nutcase these days
