I like wes but I also think his movies are generally better when they’re funnier and lower stakes (eg grand budapest) and once again this is actually a pretty popular critical opinion

it’s a bit misogynist to call her an “infant-woman” when the movie has a literal infant woman in it to show how much shittier it would be if she was actually an infant woman

the only other thing ive seen mark ruffalo in was in the cut and he plays a horrible sexual predatory man in both so i dont get the ‘going against character thing’ in my eyes hes basically being typecast

I half agree, I’m just reversing cuba’s ridiculous assertion

I like grand budapest hotel and life aquatic and that stop motion fox movie

but stuff like darjeeling limited (speaking of eat pray love) and asteroid city are completely awful

the really funny thing is that someone pointed out after poor things that his breakout role was in 13 going on 30 which is not only also the same typecasting, it’s played way more problematically straight

imagine not even mentioning the weird puppydog guy who respects her agency in completely bizarre ways. Did you even pay attention to the movie

omg ive seen that too! okay he totally is getting typecast

“right, I usually charge 30 francs”

it’s twee Europe because they used sets and matte paintings. I personally thought it was very twee when she literally broke down in tears looking at a pile of corpses

he poor things role is like spectacularly on the nose self parody. it was so Ruffalo that I’m glad he got an Oscar nom for it. I think people are just mischaracterizing it as against type because it’s so much less safe of a movie on paper than his other work

When he has a mustache your pussy is in mortal danger. That’s what movies have taught me

also since your entire post is basically trolling cuba i also take umbrage with “when she’s allowed to talk” dude she spends so much of that movie talking what are you on about, like she talks so much they keep telling her to shut up?

when i first saw it i was like “it’s fine but kind of cloying, i wish it wasn’t so much more humanistic than his other works” but everyone who likes it is some combination of autistic/trans/SW-experienced and the criticism i’ve heard is mostly moral panic-inflected blanket dismissal from pretty cis women so i’ve been radicalized a little

the lobster is the only yorgware i’ve really not enjoyed

a little of tony mcnamara goes a long way though, i tried watching the great last week and hmm yeah

I do agree that I am funnier than “broad comedy” Poor Things, which features hilarious comic choices like its protagonist sobbing over a pile of starved infant corpses, much like Airplane or The Naked Gun
