Hundreds of Beavers rocked, this is the height of comedy, this is as funny as anything gets
Finally watched Wet Hot American Summer last night. What a dumb movie. A couple of great parts and lines though.
Really funny that 15 years later they went and did a follow-up and that itâs a prequel with all the same actors. H. Jon Benjamin saying âyouâre all 16-17 years oldâ to a bunch of actors visibly in their 40s.
Chariots of Fire blu ray for 3 pounds.
I do find the Eric Lidel story inspiring, especially given how completely alien it seems,
Great movie. The British were coming
Christopher Meloni shouldâve won an Oscar for this movie
I also love the line in the prequel that they will all look and feel younger by the end of the summer, itâs great.
Iâm glad Bakoon posted this clip because itâs what sold me on finally watching it and itâs still really fucking funny even in isolation.
Being sick means having some time to spare & catch up with a few movies:
Knives Out â wasnât sure if it would hold up, but it did, and even better than Glass Onion.
Glass Onion â feels unnecessarily convoluted after watching Knives Out a day before
Superman (2025) â It actually was Superdog who stole the show, closely followed by a fabulously fanatic Lex Luther (had to look up in letterboxd that it was Nosferatu where i saw the actor last) and i am looking forward to re-watch with original language.
It Ends With Us â better shouldnât have started watching it, and i didnât even get to the questionable content âŠ. this movie is in love with Blake Livelyâs body, and not in a good way.
I think I basically agree with this. I really sort of felt betrayed by the film when Benoit Blanc was putting the pieces together at the end of the movie, and there wasnât some other twist in the mystery. I remember watching that scene and predicting âoh, itâs not going to be this simple, of course, thatâs funâ but no he put it all together and there wasnât anything left out and then the movie just ended.
did you watch w/german dub? i think if anything lex would be improved by speaking german in that movie, the rest of the characters though the original soundtrack is probably better. i feel like there are probably opportunities to make green lantern extra funny in german too
Yes, i went w/ german dub first time, and compared to usual levels of casting, VO-talent, adaption to fit facial expressions etc, it was a good dub.
Why not great? Well, Rachel Broshanan(sp?) a.k.a Lois Lane (or rather more tellingly about me: Marvellous Miss Maisel) sounds wrong no matter how good the dub is, because iâve seen every episode of MMM in english, and that voice (color, modulation, quirkyness) is hard to match/replace.
Lex otoh was great, agreed. I usually recommend giving different dubs a chance when rewatching sth, often you start to become accustomed to a dub that was your second or third screening instead of the first impression, and a different dub may bring a character more to life or make them more memorable than anticipated⊠in FF7R, Tsundere Barrét became much more iconic and memorable with the french dub, and no other language option came close to match the quirky bantering from him than the french VO.
Therefore i can only recommend taking the time to check different VO options if they are offered, because it may be the thing that elevates a good movie or game into great-territory.
Pink Flamingos. Fun for the whole family
![]()
is it? I heard the director is a sicko freak (complementary)
the only post credit scene Iâll actually stick around for
Favorite part of Pink Flamingos is when the cops show up and the birthday party kills them with hammers and eats them alive like a pack of hyenas
Al Pachino is so fucking stoked heâs getting hunted lmao
the shots in this scene get closer and closer the more intimate they get this movie is so fucking good.
I guess there are Alamo Drafthouses in San Jose now, so I saw Bugonia with a friend today at one of them. I didnât really want to see it, but a friend did since itâs by one of her favorite directors I guess and I rarely see them so.
I didnât really like it â I also really donât like Emma Stone and the pre-movie clips of Emma Stone speaking French and singing and doing cringey dances didnât help, it was like a 10 minute yogurt commercial. Maybe it was the four THC tablets I had taken prior to the movie, but I found the movie pretty forgettable, and I was already forgetting what the point of any of it was by the mid-way point.
I also saw something called Hellinger a few weeks back with another friend. Itâs like⊠almost a Hellraiser knock-off, I guess, but not really? It kind of feels like a prototype of the later Hellraiser movies where they were just taking random scripts and throwing Pinhead/cenobites into them. Itâs really bad. The titular Hellinger is obviously inspired by Pinhead, except Hellingerâs schtick is he has no eyes so he takes other peoples eyes, but I donât think he like, uses them as a substitute for his own missing eyes. Really, the only parts of the movie worth watching are the parts with Hellinger because it feels like a Mr. Show skit â Hellinger even kind of looks like Pinhead by way of Bob Odenkirk.
I donât think the actor liked wearing the black contacts, so there are several scenes where he just keeps his eyes closed. Iâd probably just watch the above video with all of the Hellinger scenes and skip the rest. Thereâs like, a four minute portion of the movie where a woman is violently assaulted for no apparent reason by some random dude ; that alone makes it hard to recommend even as a âha-ha this is really badâ watch.
Saw The Long Walk with a friend and didnât like it. The tone feels completely different from the book; felt like they wanted to make a drama that would be remembered the same as like, the one with Kathy Bates that isnât Misery, but I donât think The Long Walk was the story to do that with. The Long Walk was my favorite Stephen King story as a kid (McVries was one of my first internet handles), so I had been waiting for a movie for almost 30 years, and it was always, âOh, itâs in talks with so-and-soâ, but never happened. Kind of disappointed it didnât remain in-limbo, but ultimately I donât care that much because I havenât read The Long Walk since like, 1998. Iâd rather just watch Battle Royale again.
I like Yorgos movies but thought Bugonia undercut any of its pathos with the ending. And even if it hadnât done that I donât think what would have been saved would be all that remarkable. Cool looking movie though! I liked the actorâs performance who played the cousin.
