Annette was a heroic film because it showed Adam Driver eating pussy but he was not a virtuous character, he was the villain

actually wait I’m remembering some circa winter’s bone but not winter’s bone movie from that era that actually was more graphic with it, I feel like everything has been a degraded version of that since

ryan gosling was in it? maybe? help me out here

man I am drawing a blank with this, in my head it’s like ryan gosling and michelle williams circa 2013 but it’s hard to search movies for “memorable cunnilingus”

The American? The last movie I watched with my father.

I started to skip that scene because I was uncomfortable and we were watching it on a ps3 and i just started skipping all around the movie and it was a disaster and he started yelling “What Are You Doing?”

no
that sounds like a nice memory though. I don’t think my father and I ever watched anyone eat pussy together before he passed.

this one was like
 a rural setting
I keep going to wendy and lucy or winter’s bone when trying to remember it because it was like that
but there was cunnilingus in it. I guess it must’ve had some real B-list actors in it if I can’t seem to dig it up by association.

Blue Valentine?

yes that’s it!!!

I think I’d assumed that couldn’t have been it when I was looking at imdb an hour ago because I had transposed the setting with Wendy and Lucy in my head but no it turns out it wasn’t that rural

Puppet David Thewlis’ opening move in Anomalisa is to go down on Puppet Jennifer Jason Leigh and I never forgot the interview between Charlie Kaufman and Marc Maron where Maron talked about how disturbing and indicative of Puppet Thewlis’ character this detail was

all the pussy eating is fake. its insincere. they arent even on the level of the handmaiden there are no glistening faces or shlorping noises. this is what liberalism is taking from us. a feast of pussy and yet still nothing to eat

Benedetta foley still untouchable

all this is reminding me of that Simon lebon interview where he was like ‘please no more blowjobs. every member of Duran Duran is sick to death of blowjobs’

14 year old me at the time thought it was weird they were playing a single player game with two controllers. I think I will never beat the undiagnosed autism allegations.

Watched Annihilation, again. A very stressful movie. it makes me think about having a body and the fucked up things that happen to bodies.

Sirocco and the Kingdom of Winds

Sirocco et le Royaume des courants d'air

Agnùs, author of the children’s book series Sirocco and the Kingdom of Winds, unexpectedly has to look after Carmen and Juliette (daughters of a friend) for a day. She naps, the girls are magically: 1. transported to the Kingdom of Winds; 2. transformed into catgirls

they eventually meet Selma, a duck opera singer with a very French bosom, who is Agnùs’ dead sister

they find Sirocco and help defeat a giant bag of wacky waving inflatable tube men

extremely good. the art style is Yellow Submarine + a little bit of Scavenger’s Reign. the ‘air’ motif is realised in the design and story really well

Selma’s opera performance reminded me strongly of some other track

best I can match the feeling to is “a more strongly-performed & major version of JosĂ© Gonzales - Hints”

old movie night was not as artistically-gratifying

Hook. Spielberg’s worst movie? it’s not great, Robin Williams is too old to convincingly play an absentee boomer dad. Tom Hanks coulda done it (too tall tho). Elizabeth Smith (Dustin Hoffman’s dialect coach) gave the best performance

there are some good gags, like the red carpet and Smee’s MCing + ‘translations’. some really weird cameos, all unrecognisable: Phil Collins, Jimmy Buffett, David Crosby, George Lucas & Carrie Fisher, and Glenn Close:

and some sort of weird stuff about other movies

the lighting/costumes are generally great, but some appalling scenes in dark environments using the terrible ‘natural’ lighting

sets look dated, but I can imagine the modern digital CG sets they would use nowadays and grit my teeth

made me think about how we don’t see movies anymore with enough child actors to fill a whole classroom

The Shrouds took a lot out of me
I feel exhausted after watching it. Very existentially uneasy, even more than usual for Cronenberg imo. Much to digest. I wouldn’t rank it among his best, but it’s still very good. I was afraid it would have “this is my last movie” smell all over it, but I’m relieved to say it doesn’t at all.

Maybe the most viscerally upsetting sex scene I’ve ever seen. If you’d even call it a sex scene.

I’ve seen every single Cronenberg movie except for:

  • The 1970 Crimes of the Future
  • Fast Company
  • M. Butterfly
  • Spider

I should really get around to finishing that filmography because he might be my favorite narrative filmmaker.

Hook is one of those VHS tapes I watched over and over as a kid but I can’t remember any of it and I don’t want to revisit it

Saw sinners, liked but did not love it. I am glad of it’s existence, it’s great to be able to see big non-franchise genre movies that are “pretty good”
I barely ever go to the cinema these days and I’m kind of tired of having every theatrical experience be either something so good it basically traumatizes me or like just ok. Luckily I have become discerning enough to avoid watching movies I know I’ll hate on The Big Screen
