I really resisted the urge to write “this movie is like the kind of shit Felix likes to read,” but I figured I’d take it easy on you and this is what I get. No good deed goes unpunished

for the life of me I don’t understand why no one here can tell good litfic from bad litfic but I guess I just grew up immersed in the cultural detritus of CIA-funded novels to the point where it doesn’t scan as pretentious to me and I have more trouble in its absence if anything

You read the crazy story about the author of the book right? She seems… Bad

it’s one of my funnier and absolutely unfixable problems, that I am by disposition a materialist but my aesthetic sensibilities only let me connect with the very generationally distended segment of people who skew totally opposite

pays off every so often though

if it makes it any easier for you to make up your mind, no one really knows whether the guy they executed was actually a poacher because they dumped his body in a lake and he’s never been identified, and also abc refuses to let anyone review the rest of the footage that their reporter filmed of him getting killed

also another good reason to read the article is a surprise shout out to SB’s favorite town in idaho, bonners ferry

it’s fantastic. I really love todd field and I really love art that threatens at every turn to become reactionary but is ultimately too smart for that

finally watched collateral, and the interview with tom cruise about it where he talks about a killer having to be fast

everything that wasn’t a THRILLER was fantastic. I was hooked on like every conversation between two people HARD. then it turned into ico and was whatever. I’m a dumb idiot that doesn’t get thrilled about anything THRILLING in american cinema (cops, chases, guns) but Tom cruise falling over that chair and them turning the lights back on in the train cuz WE JUST DID THAT was really fucking funny. it was weird how they did a phone signal subplot right after a dude texted in hospital elevator but WHATEVER maybe the hospital elevators actually have signal in LA. it’s fine. it’s like how he conflates audioslave and sound garden. some details just aren’t important to the grand scheme of things

pentiment is making me wanna ask is there a michael mann movie with no combat

Decision to Leave, first South Korean movie I watched in 2022.

the plot like a Japanese cheap detective pop fiction in the 70s, lots of bullshit, but I love the biggest thing which Park Chan-wook tries to show me, the hidden desire trait on the actress, not the role, it’s beyond movie itself, that’s very very fetish.

10 minutes into watching Bones and All with my wife and two friends, my wife leans over and whispers, “this movie sucks. Pass it on.” Two hours later, she’s delirious: chuckling and repeating lines to herself.

Panos cosmatos is probably the worst modern writer/director. Psychedelic horror as produced by some narc dweeb jerking off to his color grading filters and how much he can digitally crank up lensflare while “chill lofi synth beats to study to” plays on loop.

His aesthetic is what if Stranger Things was even less original or imaginative
