I know there are a bunch of second and third tier Megaman games I have yet to play or finish. Zero 2, 4, ZX Advent, Network Transmission, all the late X series trash.
There’s just so much of the stuff, and even the most route has a basic craftsmanship that seems missing in Mighty No. 9.
Is there any reason to play this game before completely scraping the bottom of the Mega Man barrel?
probably not, no. again, if somehow you get the game for free, by all means, give it a play.
but i wouldn’t prioritize it over anything else.
definitely accurate re: basic craftsmanship. there are elements of the game that feel pretty good (getting long combo chains of collecting enemies, some of the boss fights), but overall it’s very bland.
so at least the trashy Mega Man games are pulling from Mega Man, whereas this is a new IP that doesn’t really give any convincing reasons to care about it.
there’s a pretty amazing mistake in the DLC stage i got with the game
while Ray (the enemy) is talking/screaming/whatever, at some point, she starts moaning and groaning and the dialogue box says “[AD-LIB GROANING/SCREAMING HERE]” or something like that.
like, they forgot to take out the fucking directing cues.
Of course that doesn’t really count for what you’re talking about, but that’s when I need to remind the world that Inti Creates’ very first game (and the second game too, for that matter) was 3d.
i dunno. i know enough these days to not speculate about what went wrong during a game’s dev cycle, but…clearly something went wrong. i hope there’s a post-mortem at some point. it just feels unfinished in so many ways and i’d like to know why.
i guess if you’re someone like me who found anything redeemable about MMX5 or something, maybe give it a shot, but…would not advocate spending your money on it (not that i think there’s anyone here who was really contemplating that).
it’s just so bizarre, considering that MM9 exists.
