Mighty News Thread Number 9: No Silksong in Mudville

(the joke here being that terry bogard has slowly been taking over the video game landscape in recent months and years and soon all protagonists will be simply terry)

i like that they call themselves SUCCESS, gotta be in it to win it

a new umihara kawase would be cool too

the visual effects in Hell is Us fascinate me, especially this one from the Steam page. how did they make something look neither solid nor liquid nor gas?

Can someone post Tim’s full explanation of what happened when he left the ic podcast in here? I don’t want to join his Discord and I’ve been curious.

the vapour trail following the drone is composited on. the ball looks like normal demoscene visualisations with a nice material

dunno why the fuck they’d adapt this for the stage when chrono trigger exists

the plot of seiken 3 is a big nothing

i knew people who had a fanatical devotion to it, until the anime noir came out and they formed a cult around that instead

it’s got some cool numbers in the soundtrack and is maybe the most sumptuous graphics episode on the snes but i dunno why else it would grip anyone

SD3 has a nothing, nonsense story because it has to anticipate players being stupid and smashing together three disparate plots they choose while also tracking for the three plots they didn’t

which means it runs into the same issue the Legend of Mana anime ran into, in that with something where the story is so connected to how the players wanted them to unfold, how do you canonize a single path as the correct one

SD1 and 2, with actual linear plots and most of the nostalgia, would be the good picks

(the answer is they’re probably doing Duran/Angela/x because Duran and Angela are somehow the most canonically romantic pairing)

there’s something that keeps rubbing me the wrong way about the look of the seiken densetsu games and i can never put my finger on it. something uncomfortable.

edit: maybe it looks too much like precious moments???

SD3 was never officially released in english until Squeenix frankensteined a remake together so they could sequel it while killing the studio the day it was released thereby making it the more Mysterious Japanese Role Playing Game regardless of quality or the superiority of its american doppelganger.

SD2 has characters literally named “Boy” and “Girl,” which has to freak out a modern Extended Universe conscious, IP-maxxxing corporation.

this is unfair to Squenix

Trials got loosed in Collection first (Collection and remake Trials literally share the same English script) and NetEase killed the studio that made Visions

you probably missed Collection because they shadowdropped it after announcing the Trials remake and also it’s Switch only because Square lost the code but Nintendo would hand over their archival copy in exchange for exclusivity
