they dont want you to have to scan and read everything for the lore / story so they brought in these guys explain everything to you. but also kept in scanning??? weird. itd be like if someone didnt trust you’d enjoy their book so they had you listen to a podcast about said book while you read

you know this is going to end up as the most popular metroid game and we’re going to get a bunch of stories about how genius nintendo is for doing the shitty thing that everyone else starting doing ten years ago and actually this is samus coming out of her shell, a powerful response to the years of trauma she has endured and i can’t wait to see what the metroid universe has in store next

metroid prime 3 quickly killed its companion characters and eventually made you fight their corrupted forms as bosses. i didn’t like how the female one was handled but it was a little cold and eerie the way the others’ personalities changed

honestly the beginning and ending and handholding were not great in that game but the bit that sticks in my craw the most is that you don’t get any cool weird suit upgrades after the prologue. just some space pirate acid rain umbrellas on your shoulders

My wish is that Samus falls in the final boss battle and the camera pans over into the first person perspective of the chatty companion. We kill the final boss as them. There is a quip button.

All of the stuff I seen, like the companion talking about how much they love their family, and how getting baclk to them is what’s really important and how they hope they will still be friends with Samus after we all get out of this and by the way, has the companion mentioned introducing Samus to his family; it all feels like the sort of dialog that is coded as this character is gonna die horribly.

Imo the history of Metroid is a struggle between the heroes who want it to be Nintendo’s Alien, and the putrid, contemptible villains who want it to be Nintendo’s Aliens. Retro really wants to be making an Aliens game.

Never underestimate how much Nintendo makes the devs do stupid shit. Retro actually was shocked to find out Nintendo views her as an altruistic space cop not an independent bounty hunter.
Team Ninja was very insistent that Nintendo pushed for all the story bits everyone hated in Other M, I suspect this is the same.
