sucks about the glossy finish. I have the mobapad n1s and I like everything about that controller except the dpad being unusable trash. like, it’s a good dpad design, it just doesn’t work. their matte texture is probably the best I’ve used, and they can’t even blame this glossy nonsense on the removeable faceplate design since their joycons have a removeable matte faceplate (though that texture isn’t quite as good as the N1S). the membrane buttons on the N1S are really good, even (and also matte!). if they just took that controller and gave it the dpad and triggers/trigger stops of this new pad, that’d be the best general purpose controller.
I haven’t used the N1 but if it’s like the ChiTu, I totally agree. Wish there was a mod or fix to just swap out the old dpad and internals for the new one so I could use my older Mobapad controllers too.
Anyway, after using the Huben2 for a few hours, I got used to the glossy front. It’s still not the best feeling but I learned to ignore it, though it smudges like crazy. At least the back is rubber textured so the grip is nice.
The extra back buttons that are aligned to the grips are really handy and I use them all the time now. Always love them back buttons that are aligned into the grips, it’s the best design. I never like those weird handlebars that the Xbox Elite controller and others use, it sticks out too much. Though I still think the best back buttons are the PS4’s attachment that just puts them at the bottom of the controller, because the DualShock 4 still feels the best in hand to me.
not only are they not, but according to gamepadia measurements that lil 'ol $20 tegenaria is arguably the fastest pad in the world. because that makes sense. also the $30 gulikit elves 2 – the 4 button saturn pad with analog sticks monstrosity from somewhere above – is similar, and is also the fastest bluetooth controller in the world. why are these things true? who knows! anyway I bought the evles 2 because a saturn pad that also makes no sense and is extremely fast is irresistible. we’ll see how it goes
I’m glad I’m not crazy. I’ve been using a wired 8Bitdo prior to getting these Gamesir controllers and kept thinking “damn I’m pretty sure these cheapo controllers are better, that can’t be right.”
I wish the d-pad were a tiny bit better but otherwise I’m still really happy with them.
too small, murders my medium size hands. it’s technically about the same size as the M30, but the M30 has a wider bump for the dpad and buttons to sit in, and the dpad and buttons are both raised up to the smaller portion of the controller on the elves to accommodate the sticks that no one is buying this controller for. the dpad itself is also simply smaller than the dpad on the m30. ergonomics aside, I think it’s quite good. it’s very solidly built and surprisingly hefty. it has rumble that’s pretty good, and I like all of the buttons better than the buttons on the M30. the dpad is similar to the M30, as you’d expect, but it’s a little tighter and as I said before it’s smaller. other problems: the PC mode doesn’t appear to function. maybe mine is just broken, idk, but setting it to IOS mode functions just fine on PC. edit: ok now after using it on my ipad and then going back to PC, ios doesn’t work on PC but the PC mode does. i dunno, man. controller functions, I guess that’s the important part.
anyway, there were two reasons to buy this thing. the first was as a saturn curiosity. mixed bag. the second was for very low bluetooth latency (and extremely low wired latency). no mixed bag here, as advertised. I played a few games, then I ran a test by playing ketsui on this thing over bluetooth on my ipad. felt good. then I immediately swapped over to my 8bitdo pro 2, same setup. was the difference noticeable? yes. easily noticeable. I went back and forth a few times. it’s not close. then for fun I plugged this thing into my PC and played ketsui wired on a 240hz oled monitor with the crt beam simulator, then swapped over to the ipad with the 8bitdo over bluetooth to test how big the maximum difference was. spoilers: lol.
if you have very small hands this is a good controller. if you don’t, idk, maybe you don’t get hand pain like I do, who knows. you’re not beating this over bluetooth and it’s well made. here’s niche use case: maybe you got a kid and you want to introduce them to The Ways. this thing works on pc, ios and android, and it apparently wakes both the switch and the switch 2, over bluetooth. for $30. could do a lot worse than that. kids got small hands.
also, don’t get confused. there is an elves 2 pro. near as I can tell the only upside to the pro over the normal version is better rumble? this one already has good rumble, and the pro has much worse bluetooth. why does it exist? I dunno. don’t buy it.
Wait what?? I have the Elves 2 Pro! It has worse latency?? ![]()
I like it a lot either way, but yeah it’s uncomfortable to use. I got used to it and appreciate what it’s trying to do though.
yeah they released the normal one after the pro, just to fuck people over I guess? the pro has 125hz polling over bluetooth – most controllers do – and the regular has 775 or something. and you can still have poor latency with high polling rate, but they got this one right.
What the hell
Wonder if it’s worth downgrading. I could always give this controller to a friend or something ![]()
I appreciate the sicko levels of obsession here that are otherwise ignored in the product information.
I ordered one for 26 bucks with coupon. I never use Bluetooth if I can avoid it over 2.4Ghz or wired, but I’m gonna give this a shot!
After playing a few hours of UFO 50 with the Elves 2 Pro again, I dunno what I was smoking, this controller is comfy as hell. I think it’s just kinda awkward playing 3d games with it, which totally makes sense for what it is.
I could see it evolving a little further in a future iteration though if they just left the Saturn form factor and made it have bigger grips and back buttons and more space for the controls to breathe. Maybe not as appealing to retro fans though ![]()
decided to test it myself to verify the effectiveness of the sicko settings:
yep, not gonna beat that. faster than sony’s $200 dualsense edge, for instance, which I think is the only controller that comes close. the sicko suggestions do have an effect, too. this is the result with only the elves paired, if I also have my 8bitdo pro 2 paired the results are slightly worse, even if the pro 2 is turned off entirely. would the difference between those two results matter? probably not. wired, for comparison:
immaculate. I know older gulikit controllers caught some flak for their latency. I guess they took those complaints seriously.
pro 2 and its shit latency for comparison:
Cry
gulikit has now dumped this latency tech in an xbox style controller for anyone interested in that. $25 for the cheaper variant, dunno about the pro because amazon says it’s unavailable. you don’t get back buttons or trigger locks, but other than that you get all the things. between this, the elves 2, the 8bitdo 2c, and that wired tegenaria there’s a lot out there now that does 90% of what you’d want for 30 bucks or less. hard to recommend anything more expensive imo
edit: now the pro is showing up for $30. I was gonna say I don’t see much of a point in the pro, since all of its added features are best for stuff like FPSes where you’d really like trigger stops and back buttons if you’re interested enough to want all those other features, but at only $5 more I instead don’t see a reason for the regular model to exist. I guess gulikit had a bunch of extra joystick modules they didn’t know what to do with?
My problem with the Elves 2 is the range kinda sucks. I sit about six inches too far from my TV for it to not get all weird and laggy on me sometimes. If I get up and move a bit closer it’s resolved.
The only other controller I’ve ever had this problem with was the Wavebird

Still a pretty good controller for the price. I’ll probably start using it on the go with my Macbook since it even comes with its own hard case.
I got the 8bitdo Ultimate C and it seems like a good controller but shocked how much the “wired” part bothers me.
Then I remembered the whole reason I stuck with Xbox controllers is they had headphone out if I wanted to use the laptop in the living room after the family went to sleep.
This is the kinda sicko shit I hoped Nintendo Labo would’ve turned into ![]()
God learnin’ that all these Chinese controllers have better latency than the Xbox Series controllers…I’m gonna keep using the ones I’ve got but dang…$25 is a hell of a lot cheaper than $60 or whatever these things cost now.
Alright fuck it, after absolutely eating shit at a Hatsune Miku song I recall being pretty good at on PS4 I looked up the input lag of that Gulikit, a DS4 and an Xbox Series controller. Dismal shit, Microsoft!
I’ll let y’all know how the Gulikit is…I also probably need to mail a box of random excess controllers to the meetup as kusoge prizes or something.
update on this mouse: the first time I charged it was the only time it sounded like it was going to explode. I guess I just had to fill up the anti explosion juice or whatever. pretty great mouse for $50, can’t complain.
