If I had to get shot with a video game cart, I think DS would be the least bad (vita would be too sharp) and AES would be the worst (but luckily very cost prohibitive).
Most bang for the buck would probably be one of those Vic-20 carts right?

iirc, vic-20 carts are mostly solid plastic?
western nes cartridges, by contrast, are mostly air, and would just crumple or shatter on impact

Are there symmetrical controllers where the dpad and buttons are on the inside? Like the steam controller but not…
Yeah! I was hoping it had a dpad and buttons both easily accessible to both thumbs, but the ergonomics there don’t seem to work. For reference this is kinda what I was imagining but… more.

YEAH! I am looking for something like this.
I’m playing Elden Ring and I find myself right-thumbing the d-pad pretty often. But now that I’m thinking this through more thoroughly I’m realizing this would make index-fingering the Y button and thumbing the left/right on the d-pad impossible. And come to think about it, so would a PS5 controller.
