and is the series controller much of an upgrade over the xbone thing?

itās like 25% better and they were really cheap when they launched. idk if Iād just buy one at retail for no reason but theyāre good
Yes, from a SNES mini with an Elecom Wii controller adapter.
Itās actually my main controller since I mostly play older games and retro games.
I have the xbox controller to play games that need modern controls and so that I donāt need to mess around configuring joy2key for games that donāt recognize the adapted Wii SNES controller.
I wouldnāt generally recommend this sort of setup as it isnāt at all seamless or cheap.
You need to map controls for every game you use it with. Some games donāt recognize it at all. If there are any other diehard fans of the SNES controller; importing a Club Nintendo Wii Super Famicom controller would be the way to do this now that SNES Miniās are hard to come by.
Not worth the upgrade if you have an Xbone controller already IMO.
Speaking of SNES-like controllers. Among all the hundreds of SNES-like USB controllers, is there one thatās of decent enough quality that also does Xinput? Iād like to get a pair of them for exhibitions and such.
8BitDo SN30 (non-Pro), which isā¦no longer linked on their website? Huh. Hope thatās only temporary, Iām not a fan of cramming analog sticks into a SNES controller frame.
Oh yeahā¦ I forgot about these! They used to be everywhere for pretty cheap. I almost bought a few at MicroCenter at some point. Regretting I didnāt, because it looks like 8bitdo has discontinued them. Canāt even find them on AliExpress, and the few places that have them have even marked them up a lot or lookā¦ sketchy.
Damn, they look so nice too. I have a couple SN30 Pros, and maybe thatās just what Iāll have to do, as at under $30 for the wired (which Iād prefer to have), theyāre a pretty good value (and I actually donāt mind the analog sticks on them). Wish they came in colors as cool as the GB Pocket tributes.
8bitdo seems to have really narrowed their product line and havenāt put out anything much new besides their Pro 2 lately.
That really stinks, hope itās just a temporary supply issue. If they discontinue the M30 Iāll have real trouble.
I mean, they cloned Godās greatest creation in the m30 so why make anything else
Can someone with the beloved OG Saturn pad confirm if the elevated directional disk can be wholly depressed the way the M30ās can? It happens by accident sometimes during normal operation and feels deeply unpleasant to me.
It is definitely several grades above the Retrobit pads as has been discussed here but the recent Sega OEM pads (Genesis Mini and Astro City Mini) donāt seem to have that problem.
Although my Saturn pad will depress if you push from the center, itās only about half as deep as the M30 does and it appears to be moving down from depressing one of the direction membranes and not whatever the M30 is doing.
thank you. the dpads on the new sega hw are sooo good but being platform-bound and lacking shoulders kinda tanks their potential for general use
yes it depresses, donāt have an m30 for comparison, but it presses down quite far from the center.
@boojiboy7 i want to do thisā¦ i assume it is an āOdinā ? do i really have to use a google forms waitlist and join a discord server to do this
You do, unfortunately, but the guy who makes them is really nice and responsive on the discord, and just emails you when you are next up on the list, even if you arenāt active on the discord at all.
Itās really a nice little unit, so I definitely think it is worth it, but yeah, itās silly.
Some nice features: the plates are 3d print d and you can get multiple colors of you want. I would also say grab the magnetic cover from their Etsy shop, which really is nice for carrying the stick. The switches are Hotswap, which is nice for experimenting.
I already consider it a failure to have face buttons competing with camera control, hence paddles, but most paddle controllers donāt allow those to be treated independent of an existing button. At best you are just moving those inputs to allow for constant camera control.
Same goes for mice, which typically have 7-10 mappable inputs, two of which are almost always reserved. On my keyboard Iām using my thumb for five inputs on the bottom row (block, crouch/slide, jump, dodge, use/interact) but typically only two on my mouse.
The worst offenders are potentially fatal timing windows on doubled-up inputs e.g. the right face button in Elden Ring. Iāve died when not holding it long enough to register as a sprint and instead hopping backwards off a ledge. This is funny the first time. Less disastrous is the āswitch weaponā mapping in Destiny vs. standard 1/2/3 switching - tap for slot 2, hold for slot 3. Hitting number keys is more accurate but more binds and movement of the hands from WASD (ESDF).
Iām thinking about setting up clicky pedals to take 2-3 rarely-executed but cluttered inputs off my hands. Previous pedal setup was just adding on to the Kinesis Advantage firmware so this will be new or modded.
Thereās a lot of progress on gyro* but Iām curious about making mouse input feel right for third-person ā I played Witcher 2 that way and it never bothered me but the effect is still strange. Most third-person cameras do some smoothing of their own so having one rigidly under mouse aim takes something away.
Is the problm not one for input devices at all?
Mostly unrelated, good gyro video, covers several different methods for mappings as well as flick stick plus gyro (@Brooks)
I legit have no idea what button finishers in D2 are mapped to and havenāt been able to figure it out because everything seems accounted for already. Good thing theyāre mostly useless(?)
I think itās a stick click?
But also great example: āchargedā melee (spell cast), normal melee, and finisher are potentially three inputs.
As of last weekend any player on any class can get a fragment for their void subclass from Ikora that grants invisibility on finishers, so, definitely not useless for non-hunters anymore! They also come in handy for taking out an enemy giving you trouble and closing the gap ā lots of magnetism to it.
watching the gyro video and doing my best to not start yelling about how games should just support inputs from both KBM and controller at the same time and have an option to lock button/key visual prompts
