methods of input (Part 2)

just kind of sadly accepted i’ll never be 100% happy with a controller

I like a controller for its positives but love a controller for its flaws.

I have many things to say about the FF7Rebirth control scheme as played through the lens of the Accessible Controller! Just you wait til I find the time to lay out all my gripes!

Foolishly gonna try another Joycon alternative, the Mobapad M6 HD, which looks like the Hori Fit Pad Compact (very good!) with rumble and gyro and whatnot (cool, hopefully!).

People on Reddit swore ordering from their site would have it ship from the US per a post made like two months ago, and mine shipped shortly after ordering…from Guandong. Ah well! I’ll let y’all know in a month or whatever, I forget how long 4PX takes.

I don’t know if I like the Dualsense

but I’ve somehow managed to spend a few hundred hours with a pair (in the same game…) and I don’t hate it yet

i’m so annoyed that PDP/epic/harmonix are making a new $130 guitar controller with an analog stick when what i really want is for them to reissue the rock band 4 wired legacy adapter for xbox one (horrifying ebay resale prices for a dongle that provides xbone USB protocols) so i can connect a midi drum kit through my rock band 3 xbox 360 midi adapter to my xbox series x in defiance of the passage of time and good taste

it’s not complicated!!! :stampstampstamp:

i should post video/pictures of the goofy squier stratocaster with the midi hardware and 360 buttons built-in sometime (after i clean the battery corrosion out)

Oh, thanks for telling me about this! I’m a big fan of the Mobapad Chitu HD gamepad, basically my dedicated Switch controller, so having a Joycon version of it would be great!

I’m using a Hori Split Pad Compact as my eveyrday connected Joycons, so it’ll be nice to have Joycons that could be both

When I looked this up a few days ago to see how long it’d take to get a Retroid Pocket 4 delivered, people said between 1-3 weeks depending on where in the US they lived.

I’ll wait until they start listing them on Amazon before I try it. Tell me what you think when you get it, @Grandpa!

Okay this actually showed up unexpectedly today (tracking went from customs to Dallas to some guy chucking it at my door).

It’s heavier than the Hori Compacts (as you’d expect), and ergonomically a little different. Not in a bad way, just not how I’m used to with the Hori.

Instead of that patented Hori mushy feel, the whole thing is using micro switches, so everything has a nice click to it.

I immediately dug around in the little accessory box (it looks like the faceplates pop off so you can choose between circular or octagonal edges for the sticks to follow) and swapped the weird disc D-Pad for a traditional one.

Fired up UnderMine (since it was already in standby) and…it feels good! Nice little rumble, though I miss the width of the Hori stick tops (these are much narrower).

Totally worth it so far, but I only used it for half an hour with one game. I’ll try something that never feels good in handheld (an FPS, probably, or a fighter) and see how those fare.

Dang, what the heck! That came super fast!!

Glad you’re liking it! Maybe I should try buying it despite the china shipping too

Gonna update and say that as far as input goes, I’ve never had better timing in Easy Come, Easy Golf. Max swing power, dead center every time.

I did try BioShock, and it felt OK. That game has kinda funky look acceleration anyhow, so it might not be the best example. I also fumbled around in Rumble Fish 2, and it seemed to work fine.

Gonna have to cop that controller now…

I’ve developed tendon pain on the back of my mouse-wielding hand. I’ve never liked my G305 and it’s time to upgrade to something more ergonomic.

Is Vaxee the new Zowie? Or should I be looking at one of those sharkfin mice.

Yeah I definitely recommend a vertical mouse. Which is the best is pretty personal, so I’d recommend ordering several of different shapes and sizes from Amazon, trying each for a day, and returning all but your favorite one.

Seconding vertical mouse. I cannot use any other kind of mouse now, it’s just a lot comfier. Having tried other ergonomic alternatives I think it’s the best and definitely the best for playing games unless you’re some sort of wizard with a trackball.

Also make sure to keep the wrist off surfaces. Those tendons need blood.

Mice kill me after about 20 minutes but I can use a track ball all day. Currently have an Elecom Deft Pro. Never tried vertical mice.

There’s a couple Catagory 5 movies where this happens

4PX has always been wildly fast for me as well, shipping logistics are truly a mystery. ebay orders from japan show up in 3-4 days, getting mail from within north america is 2 weeks minimum

Alright, I’m convinced. I didn’t know the official mobapad website just uses paypal and shop app! Just put in an order now, let’s see how long it takes to get to California.

damn bastards convinced me to get it too* (*non HD version), wanna try it with the flip grip since it’s actually wireless.

It came yesterday!
What the hell

It plays exactly like I hoped - a split Joycon version of the Mobapad! Complete with microswitched buttons and all. Very satisfied with how it turned out. :ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand::ok_hand:

It’s so good. Gives it just enough heft and feels pretty dang good in the hand. I swear I’m doing better playing with these things than with my 8Bitdo controller.
