happy to hear that! the neo geo mini controller looked the part, but wasn’t microswitched sadly.

for both PS2 and PS3 exar made some SNK Neo CD style controllers with 2 additional face buttons. I hope 8bitdo can do the same for additional utility (like for kick harness games like street fighter for example)

Greatest dpad/thumbstick? known to man. Even wipes the floor with the Saturn pad.

As someone who owns two of these you must understand that the switches on the pad itself had no drop-in replacement. Whatever solution 8bitdo is using, it looks authentic.

The Neogeo CD and PS2 versions were looser and more vague than the NGPC stick. In practice I never found them very useful for fighting games but they were fun enough for standard duty platforming, etc.

The PDP Versus Fighting Pads were/are tighter, overall superior imo.

well, I’ll probably have to buy this neo CD thing as a good-enough version of the ngpc click stick, even though the controller only has 4 face buttons, they’re still crappy membranes, and I’ll probably never really use it.

some guy on reddit has been making this monstrosity that has me highly tempted, but I’m afraid to ask the price and I have no idea what that shape is all about or if it will snap your hand in half

i use the DualSense Edge every day but 200 is outrageous for what it is and what it does. the biggest draw hasn’t actually materialized yet — 3rd-party hall effect sticks. and those will be another expense on top of the 200 when they do come around!

the base package has swappable sticks but the replacements have the old PS1/2/3 dualshock thumb grip texture and i don’t like that grip, it’s too slippy and wears down in after a few months of heavy play to a slick sheen. they are, of course, also alps and prone to drift as are all other sony sticks at the moment.

the profile/remap/hotswap/stick response curves stuff is utterly on-point and works fabulously on the PS5 (perfect firmware integration) but also immediately raises the question: why isn’t this stuff available on the base DualSense — a 70 USD pad to begin with? why can’t you have savable custom remap profiles for regular DualSense pads? (to the console, even, doesn’t even need to be saved “controller-side”.) it’s a cynical, cruel move to artificially increase the value of a blatantly overpriced product when there’s nothing preventing the base models from having the same functionality. this stings so much more given sony’s unforgivable controller DRM. you have no choice! eat our upcharge or perish! shit like this is why i stopped fucking with apple for many many years until the allure of the iphone was too great (and the irritation with android too severe). déjà vu all over again

the half-dome back buttons are incredible, at least. haven’t seen any other pads with that design, and that design is absolutely perfect for my hands.
