I love gambling
Thereâs a very deep, very expensive rabbit hole of artisanal stick components that begin with tighter tolerances and donât wear out. The state of the art seems to be polished steel bowls and sticks with replaceable Teflon nibs, but theyâre a million dollars and always out of stock. Some folks were working on getting injection molding of exact, 1:1 replacements of all the original consumable parts, but I donât know where that stands.
So it hasnât really moved forward much? I looked into those metal sticks at one point but could only find thinly-sourced mixed reviews and decided it was much easier to find better used N64 controllers to harvest sticks from. For my needs, the Gamecube-style stick replacements would be fine if the input curves were anywhere near appropriate.
The stick output on the official NSO 64 controller is perfectly tweaked, but price and availability on those is very hurty ofc.
Assuming the Switch mode on this spoofs a Pro controller as all these third party controllers do and the stick output is normalised in a modern way, a console adapter (Intec, BlueRetro) should handle the conversion so it all works/feels acceptably correct on console, at least in theory. Tests seem to demonstrate the stick sucks, actually
As for the PC adapters, 8BitDo have an obligation to prioritise their devices being properly supported in DInput (Android) mode on their wireless adapters, not least because theyâve promised their hardware partner Analogue âfull compatibility with all 8BitDo productsâ for connectivity in the Pocket Dock and other microconsole products which pack that hardware internally. All their other modkits have support, so the firmware update will likely come before if not shortly after these ship. âSwitchâ mode should work out of the box. BlueRetro adapters do not get along with this kit, a shame.
The fact that none of the âaction shotsâ are showing the stick replacement is pretty shady to me, along with the whole fomo preorder model they havenât ran with since their earliest Kickstarter days. Kinda gross imo since theyâve demonstrated no issue producing quickly and at scale for similar products.

new keychron mouse available tomorrow. smaller version of the ambidextrous m3 shape i tried before, 55g and huano switches instead of kailh 8.0s. never tried the switches but the m3 was great save for the shape for my hands
Not compatible with the Xbox 360 smgdh
I just started using my old 360 pad for shits and giggles and honestly itâs still really nice as long as you arenât doing complex inputs with the dpad.
the newer Xbox controllers are like an improvement in every way canât wait til they start selling sixaxis for no reason
Whatâs a good fight stick for an absolute beginner?
what console(s), genre(s) etz.? this guyâs content is good for entry level info
oh uh just a USB one to use with my PC
If âa stickâ is your main qualification, thereâs those Hori mini sticks that are like $30-50. I have the PS3/PS4 version and the latter mode works under Steam. I donât think theyâre nice enough to use as a modding platform though.
Be aware that they are very mini, and the throw on the actual joystick is a bit less than normal
I was thinking this one since it seems like you can swap out the buttons and/or joystick for compatible higher quality stuff and itâs pretty small
Busted link, did you mean this https://www.amazon.com/MAYFLASH-Arcade-Stick-F101-Switch/dp/B07D26RD9P
yeah that one
Sounds decent for $40. (Iâve never a Mayflash stick.) Apparently theyâve improved the input delay to reasonable levels with firmware updates in recent years: What is the best option for a low latency arcade stick? - MiSTer FPGA Forum
it is imo extremely worth it to just get something that has actual arcade parts regardless of if youre a beginner or not unless youre the kind of person whoâs already pretty invested in modding gaming peripherals and that sort of thing
