More and more I wish that instead of the Switch Lite, Nintendo had just opted to sell the Switch sans dock as the budget option.

I wouldn’t want to use it but I’m glad that it exists

It doesn’t look like I’d have a good time playing TIE Fighter on this

it reminds me of someone describing the ps2 street fighter fightpads as “like holding onto the side of a table”

Got this from an Etsy seller today. Gonna take a lot of time to learn this thing. But at least it’s finally broken me of my worst habit, of constantly jumping in (not used to hitting jump with my thumb so I keep forgetting!).

Weirdly enough, I’ve had the easiest time pulling off moves in KOF 98. Street Fighter V has been a lot trickier by comparison.

Shoot, I want to get this so bad but I don’t want to order it off their site. :cryingpig: I’d rather wait until it’s on Amazon, if it ever does.

Oh, I forgot to say but I got that 8Bitdo Ultimate Controller and used it to play a few hours on the Switch and like 40 hours of Monhun Rise on PC (I bought it while it was on sale to experience the 60FPS and fast loading and it’s such a game changer). The 8bitdo is so good! I’m surprised I like it so much despite it weighing as much as it does. The analog sticks feel nice, buttons are nice, shoulder buttons feel good. The back triggers are also really nice and have stood up to thousands of light bowgun shots. The only bad side is the dpad - it’s too mushy for me and doesn’t feel great. It feels like an SNES dpad? Which isn’t my fav by any means, but it’s more than good enough for 2d games but I’m just spoiled on good dpads.

The syncing is really good, with the dongle working immediately out of the box if you plug it into the PC, and the Switch can find it quickly and easily. My highest praise - it just works. The dock is also really convenient - makes me wish I had a dock for all my controllers (do people have recommendations for good docks for PS5 controllers?).

The mobile app also works well! I was a little confused figuring it out but once I got it, it was pretty fast and easy. Overall, I’d recommend it!

sony’s new pro PS5 controller, the dualsense edge, is out now. reviews are somewhat mixed, with the price point being the major sticking point

consensus seems to be: great controller, but the battery life is not at all improved from the dualsense, which is already likely the worst modern wireless controller in terms of battery life. possibly even a smidge worse…

joysticks are still drift-compatible (blegh) but they will sell you a $20 replacement module rather than having to get a whole new pad. that’s… something, i guess. just put hall effect sticks in the damn thing, sony, come on (notably: apparently 3rd parties will be able to make stick modules, so presumably there will be some hall effect modules forthcoming)

thing costs 200 USD, i mean sheesh. i still want one though, because it makes a huge difference in terms of ergonomics having back buttons and the adjustable triggers. just really have to psych myself up for this… maybe i can get one on sale at some point? lol

probably just going to suck it up because the health of my hands is probably worth 200 bucks, no? but dang, wish it wasn’t quite so steep

it’s really stupid that there is no controller that you can just, like, recommend to people. these things are all so expensive and every one of them seems to have some kind of major weakness. $200 is absurd. the thing probably costs 30 cents over the base model to produce

yeah I really hate what happened with this market, I miss when 3rd party stuff just uniformly sucked, it was simpler

the PS4 back button attachment is probably the easiest thing to recommend still

i think the 8bitdo ultimate 2.4ghz/bluetooth with the hall sticks is a good unqualified recommendation but they only work on switch and pc (not sure about xbox?)

I’m sorry, 8bitdo released the m30, which is the most perfect modern controller

Every popular controller is basically fine and there’s a lot more cross-compatibility than there used to be. And every controller works out of the box on Steam with no per-game mapping needed (unless you want to change the defaults). We can be picky about the remaining tradeoffs, but today we’re in controller heaven really

Except the PS5’s controller encryption chip is trying to force us back to limited choices all paying license fees to Sony

I’ve heard that the shoulder buttons on those can be very uncomfortable, and I would personally prefer the grips to flare out at a wider angle like the xbox controller instead of the switch pro shape, but that’s just preference. if my controller broke today and I needed to buy something, it’s probably what I would get

Yeah aside from the ultra high end gamepads that seem like a bad deal to me, getting good controllers is easier now than ever before. I don’t really have any issues with any 8bitdo controller I’ve used

keychron’s first (wireless) mouse, the M3, is fantastic on paper. they’ve come so far from their first keyboards

i’ll report back when mine shows up but it’s essentially a top sensor in an ambidextrous shell with a comparable weight to an original viper or g pro wireless for $49. unlike those mice it includes both type A and type c dongles, as well as bluetooth. right in line with keychron’s deal as gamer hardware for people who also use macs but also really affordable. sucks to be vaxee!

my only gripe is the rgb should be nixed for weight reduction but keychron’s brand is also rgb for the embarrassed gamer so fine

the K4 has like 5 embarrassing RGB settings and one gorgeous pastel mode that they don’t advertise at all
