methods of input (Part 1)

Cherry Browns

Nav keys are more important than numpads for sure

if you like linears but want more feedback, consider yellows or blacks instead; I find blues way too loud and many browns and purples excessively mushy, but heavy linears are great

it’s not that I don’t want to open up my K65 again and try desoldering switches

it’s that I won’t desolder switches because I cannot be trusted with a soldering iron (ask me about glassing over my thumb and index finger) (actually I need to remove a switch because it very clearly either needs to be deep cleaned or lubed or both)

at any rate, this new keyboard is just for typing crap into the terminal and breaking things so I don’t need hair-trigger presses

let me mull over that offer, I’m not sure when I’ll be back home and it’s not a pressing need or want

please help im thinking about racing wheels again

I got my used g29 for like $150 and I can’t complain at all at that price. the pedals suck, but you do get a clutch and the wheel itself is really nice. any meaningful upgrade is over double the cost

I have the newer 8bitdo stick and a button upgrade is super easy and worth it, you just pop them out and in

the stick is a lot harder to replace and their stock stick is m actually pretty good

I feel this deeply. My heavily modded and abused G29 has been flirting with death lately. The siren song of Fanatec or even Simcube :doomthunking: has been calling!

LS-40 is the best stick! No idea what work would be required to get one in the 8-bit though. I guess the stock is a Sanwa clone?

as far as i understand it’s a JLF clone, and it IS pretty good, but it’s not incredible and anything less than incredible makes me want to go back to the m30 instead

Wondering if the G29 is less durable than the 27 Ive been ripping on mine since 2010 ish,… Though I did take it apart to renew the grease just in case about a year ago.
A new wheel is tempting especially the direct drive units for more precise drifts. Though they can apparently like, injure you.

If you’re getting into STGs an LS-40 is a great choice. These days I use a saturn pad but the LS-40 was my go to for years. Can’t abide the noise of a stick anymore though haha.

I can’t play anything on a JLF, always felt too loose for me.

The only Logitech wheel that completely crapped out on me after just about a year was the G920. What a garbage product from a company that usually makes very solid stuff. Oddly, the G29 seems to be much more reliable, but I do feel like the G27 is a tank compared to the G29.

what are your thoughts on buttons? anything specific you prefer?

enthusiastic endorser of seimitsu stick, sanwa buttons checking in

I have only ever used Sanwa OBSF or stock buttons. I don’t really play fighters and I feel like that’s where they really count.

I can’t figure out what ā€œthe newā€ one is from their site… but also from the looks of their stuff it’s probably way out of my comfortable price range and also I’d have absolutely nowhere to mount it

This seems very weird given they look to be largely identical aside from platform compatibility? How on earth did they manage it
