i am impatiently awaiting their saturn retro receiver, and something for the n64. n64 is still in a rough spot, though i will say the retro-bit tribute64 is allegedly the king of the modern n64 pads (haven’t tried it myself, but several 1080 snowboarding WRs were set on one)
wouldn’t argue with a ps1 retro receiver so i can use my sn30 pro+ there, either
edit: i guess brook to the rescue again as usual, my other favorite company of late lol
they suck, the switches on both of mine (original and replacement) went out after playing fighting games on them for a few months
Curious to hear about your keyboard/fighting game set up!
movement: ASD, space for jump
top row: U, I, O, P
bottom row: H, J, K, L, ;
extra row: N, M
Can you do hydoukens and all that or are you playing something Tekkeny?
I also can’t get over how convenient it is that they store one xinput, one dinput, one mac, and one switch pairing, because I have exactly four devices that I want my SN30 pro to connect to (PC, Pi, Mac, Switch) and it’s such a neglected feature that it actually led me to sell my Elite 2 controller as a comparatively poor experience
these are made with keyboard switches and they are literally perfect. i wanna preorder one when i can afford it some day soon
That’s wild!
The use of low profile “choc” Kailh switches here is odd - the travel distance difference between them and a regular MX-style switch is 0.5mm which is also the margin of tolerance. The stem (cap/switch interface) is also different on choc switches so you’re relatively limited as to swap options. Usually keyboard hobbyists use choc switches where they want the keyboard itself to be thin, which isn’t really a consideration for a hitbox as far as I know.
Just
Granted, this is just keyboard knowledge, I’m probably missing something
The drop-in replacements brooks linked upthread are a much more versatile option as far as keyboard switches go.
Kailh Creams are the best btw psst
the problem with buying new midheight switches for a keychron is:
- they cost more than the keyboard itself cost
- the problem is still with the height of the frame/battery
- superstitious that the optical switch latency helps counteract bluetooth and wary of the downgrade
it’s a starter model imo, and a good one, but I wouldn’t put that much more $$$ into it
also if I’m buying new switches I’d much rather get non-red linears than regular old reds
I actually deleted the post because I read more and the size of those is a few mm off of universal compatibility for some reason. I will be more vigilant! o7
that said I find this incredible in a good way and admire your apparent sensitivity! I can add an A/B to my miniature keeb expo at the meetup lol
8BitDo M30 Bluetooth + Brook Wingman SD + Sega Saturn = happiness
just put the dang thing in switch mode and pair it, no notable latency, buttons are mapped correctly (edit: you might need to swap a/b and x/y - hold down+minus for 5 seconds to swap in switch mode fyi)… i am in videogame paradise.
one thing to note: i was having issues with my M30 (seemingly due to a failed firmware upgrade) and needed to reset it - Start + L + R for 10 seconds seemed to do the trick, then i was able to run their software and fix the firmware. i really like that they wrote out the button combinations for the various modes on the back on the M30, wish they had that on the SN30 line too
thinking about doing this next for longevity: https://www.reddit.com/r/8bitdo/comments/dbvase/guide_how_to_fix_the_crunchy_dpad_on_a_m30/
Treat yourself to some PTFE in grease form instead of the machine oil. I use it on all my switch-containing things and it’s a delight (and also less prone to degradation over time).
I had that problem, used some white lithium grease and it’s smooth as butter.
I’ve had more problems with the older SN30 dpad but a half-dozen rounds of tinkering with various amounts poster tack between the dpad and rubber membrane finally seems to have corrected the over-eager down dpad contacts. Sounds like they’ve mostly cleared up their Nintendo-style dpad on the newer SN30 Pro, but if I wanted a controller with handles and analog sticks I would use my Xbox controller.
the dpad was def. switched. i was wrong.
I’ve been playing matches on Fightcade for the past week or so what else is there to do on this bitch of an earth and while I have defaulted to playing on stick for the past number of years, because they are fun and cool to touch and feel, in his heart: daddy is a pad fighter.
So I got a Razer Raion, despite its imperfect reviews.
I didn’t realize the face buttons were linear switches, for whatever reason the reason is I didn’t read anything expected them to be clicky.
Oh yes I see, of course.
I wonder how possible/easy it is to swap for other mx-style switches? The dpad and shoulder buttons feel like mouse-style switches. Need to crack this hoss open and take some peeks.
I switched over to claw grip for the couple months I played SFV at launch, on a Fighting Commander 4 Pro, and now I deem it the correct way to play.
Had some trouble doing 360/720s and, oddly, charge-character supers on the Raion in SFA3, but felt pretty good playing Alex with the more lenient input of 3S. I’m more in it for the feel than absolute victory. It feels good. Doesn’t suffer the wide deadzone issue of the PDP/NGCD clickstick pads.
Seems like it would also be a pleasure for general-purpose 2d action, which is where I’ve most enjoyed the PDP and NGCD pads; you know what they say, “kick back and click, Jack.”
they’re fightstick buttons. they’re supposed to offer like no resistance
