Math Games

Thread for games that use maths in fun and interesting ways. Think “spatial, visual explorations of mathematical concepts”. Could also be used for games about maths specifically if you want to I guess. I’m just going to post some trailers of every example I can think of but I’m know I’m forgetting some.

Games that do interesting things with geometry:

Spaceflux:

Maquette:

Miekagure:

4DToys:

Hyperbolica:

HyperRogue:

Portal:

Portal 2:

Marathon:

Antichamber:

Manifold Garden:

Games that do interesting things with other maths:

Marble Marcher (this probably belongs to the above group):

Quantum Conundrum (is this really a math game per the thread definition?):

Manifold Garden also springs to mind. Edit: was thinking of Antichamber which is already here - tired brain

Leshy - this is really a single-level shrink/grow game with fine-grained physics but the level is really cleverly designed – there’s a bit at :48s in the trailer that really plays with it

the level design in Superliminal is by the same guy that did most of the levels in Perspective, and he did the puzzle game based on screenwrap, Four Sided Fantasy:

I’ve updated the op to include more links and videos (Including some non-game maths stuff too). Remember there’s more maths than just geometry! Should we include things like logic or would that broaden the topic too much? At some point all games are just maths, right?

I think spatial, visual explorations of mathematical concepts are good bounds

These games attempt to build an intuitive sense of mathematical concepts that computers can trivially expose

Mirror drop has that math game vibe!

The two games below are literally about math and probably not what we’re talking about but I think it’s fun anyway.

Blocksum is a game about doing simple math!

Hydra Slayer, a tedious game about doing complicated math from creator of Hyper Rogue

I always thought that Marathon map was so cool and wished more games would do stuff like that.

out of all of these games, only one of them appears to go hard as fuck

Blocksum’s pretty legit fun. Played it a decent amount in college but never got great at it.

Desktop Dungeons boils down to calculating monster damage vs. weapon damage vs. exploration health refills.

DOOM can do some like, spaces-occupying-the-same-space shit, even in vanilla doom. I was playing around with it a bit at one point:

Yeah I’ll second that! You could win a cacoward with some mind bending levels like that.
