Desperately trying to catch up my stunted knowledge of Mario lore now that I’ve realized the primitive error of having been an original DK hater all this time. [_[
So when Wikipedia says the “Jumpman” reference to Mario is in the English instructions, yet it was “Mario” in the NES manual scan I found on archive.org, I guess it’s not that there would be an earlier, pre-Mario version of the NES manual, but rather that they were referring to this section of the US DK arcade cabinet’s display?

I wonder if subscribing to Nintendo Power in 1989/1990 robbed me of some of the mystery/banging my head against the wall trickiness of a lot of these games?
Then again I feel I got plenty of bizarre mystery from the Colecovision and Atari games we had pre-NES and the early Nintendo rentals and games I borrowed from friends.

If I remember correctly the US Cabinet prominently says JUMPMAN in the marque. I’d have to look through thousands of images to confirm.

I don’t have a pic but the one near me with the NO MAME sticker looks mostly like this except the pics of DK, Pauline, and Mario are captioned “The Beast,” “The Damsel,” and “The Hero”

yep, it’s on archive if you don’t want to spend money. i looked it up the other day to see how it talked about the coin ship and to browse the cool map layouts. becuase i dont NEED it otherwise becuase i KNOW everything else
I tried to beat the third castle as a frog cuz I rememeber something special happens but I lost it on the koopa sister boss fight cuz of the damn rings she shoots
