I think it’s really strange for them to essentially announce up to ~600 cards a year may be tied up with external IPs but not announce how they plan to reprint any cards that see substantial play after the 2-year publishing deal is over.
The most obvious example right now would be The One Ring, which is a $100 mega-staple in every format it’s legal in (it’s in 60% of Modern decks), but has a name that is pretty obviously tied to LotR. Is it generic enough to be reprintable with non-LotR art in a reprint set? Are they never going to reprint it and use Universes Beyond as a secondary reserve list to make older formats expensive to get into?
If this is a major part of the game going forward, I would expect them to address it but they haven’t really bothered since the Street Fighter cards came out
At least the Final Fantasy cards won’t turn my stomach…that’s some small solace, I guess…
They came up with the concept of “universes within” and have done in universe versions of the walking dead and street fighter cards
I know that, and that worked when all they were making were one-off Secret Lairs with ~5 mechanically unique cards at a time. When you are dropping entire premiere sets made up of ~200 cards at a time, that is too much volume for the current Universes Within system to handle.
not a magic head here but it strikes me that WotC, masters of artificial scarcity, should really understand the value of not milking a good thing until everyone’s sick of it
Hasbro, on the other hand, is still making hundreds of millions of dollars on ads for car robots from 1984.
I don’t get what Foundations is for. sure, having Hero’s Downfall as the default unconditional removal for 5 years will be great, but each set will need conditional black removal or else its drafting scene will be garbage. I can imagine better conditional removal, but I can’t imagine a better mana dork than Llanowar Elves. Will every set have a 1G “tap: add one mana of any colour” from now on?
I feel like Foundations is a sop to the concept that they need to have a mechanical entry point into the game and a “well I guess we gotta have this too” to counter-balance all the other cards being promotional tie-ins with other IPs, and it seems destined to be under-baked and poorly supported in the same sort of sense Brawl was.
Yes
if you want to see this in action, add falsedan#22565
please, I want to see it pop off against someone who isn’t Sparky
Do you have a deck list for skeleton.dek?
Currently running this in Arena. It’s not working too great, do think there are probably better ways to approach this, but my thought process was “let’s set set a budget, let’s see if I can make something that works without Sheoldred or Bloodletter or any of the other REALLY big money black cards that I’ll never be able to afford, let’s just make this shit somewhat realistic.” And the Cavern of Souls is very expensive so I’ll never get it, and Gix and Tinybones and Fountainport are up there, but most of the ghoulies and enchantments are sub $1 I think. Cut Down is also like $5 now but I got four of them for $1 when miffy and I were cobbling together our cheapie decks awhile back and that feels nice, gotta think whoever was running the store that day made a bit of a mistake.
I tried using some of the older skeletons Foundation added back in and it didn’t do me no good. They just seemed to cost too much.
I haven’t worked Tinybones the Bauble Burglar into this yet, think maybe he’d be better in a more discard forcused deck…will try and puzzle that out soon…
Also @miffy needs to post about our experience playing Magic in real life…do it miffy…tell everyone about how you utterly stomped all those dudes…
There’s a pioneer deck that likes stashed skeleton
This is really cheap in paper esp if you don’t run screaming nemesis.
Do you play best of 1 on arena? I noticed no sideboard.
Maybe we have gotten off topic for this thread. @daphaknee can you “magic” these posts to the blathering thread
I say cheap but there’s not really anything cheap in magic. Also no skeletons.
I firmly believe in proxies. Like I was looking up the cost of my blue otter deck and it’s like 100 dollars, which i know isn’t a lot relative to lots of competitive decks, but still damn that’s 100 dollars
“Magic the Gathering is for everyone” according to WotC. Except for poor people apparently.
Proxy it up, fuck em
Where do I get the proxies just random Aliexpress?
