Let's just talk about Star Wars forever (Part 1)

My partner and I finished The Clone Wars. She had been waiting for a rewatch before watching the final season and it appears to have delivered serious catharsis.

Any two-parter from the latter seasons of that show would be a better movie than Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith.

It does strain a bit when the last four episodes are happening concurrently with Revenge of the Sith because of the Forest Gump implausibility but it works because Rex and Ahsoka are characters unto themselves by that point. (As is Maul, holy shit, I did not think I could be convinced)

The Forest Gump implausibility is unsolvable for The Clone Wars because it’s in such a discrete time and place, but somehow it is much worse in Rebels. I care about neither the new cast nor any of the cameos. It’s gesturing at an exciting niche (actual rebels doing actual terrorism on a planet at the edge of the empire’s reach) but mired in slapstick and a total misallocation of screen time.

Apparently Rebels becomes a back door to wrapping up “loose ends” in The Clone Wars and just once I’d like an end to stay loose in this universe. Wither The Mandalorian.

I need them to stop putting C-3PO in things.

The show gets better as it goes and gets there much faster than clone wars. Once the inquisitor starts showing up stuff gets much more serious, and Darth Vader and Tarkin raise the stakes even more.

The show always has little goofy bits but it definitely has more actual weight to it than it seems like at first.

It’s a really good arc though? And 90% of the series isn’t about Vader so it’s a cool arc where the character is used to great effect.

And it also did a little housekeeping for clone wars because that last arc of clone wars didn’t actually get animated until the last few years, and the creative team didn’t know they’d get more clone wars episodes after Disney spent a few years pretending the prequels never happened.

It…seems ok to me.

Yeah when Vader showed up I was afraid he was going to have too much gravity and would just pull the whole series down on him, but it “wraps up” what it needs to from TCW without getting too much in the way of the rest of the overarching plot of Rebels.

There are still plenty of unresolved loose ends from TCW lol, and Rebels creates even more.

My big Rebels complaint at this point is that the final season feels very rushed, and because of that I don’t think they quite earn all of the big developments in the last episode(s). But I still liked it a lot.

You can definitely feel disney’s rush to get ‘sequel content’ in during the last bit because they cancelled this thing for Resistance and…resistance bombed hard, AFAICT.

Anyone interested in my new cuts of AOTC and ROTS where I deepfake Matt Lanter into them?

I finished Mandalorian

Yeah I didn’t hate it. It was always gonna be Luke, I dunno how people were treating that either as a big wonderful surprise on the one hand or groanworthy Marvel crossover shit on the other hand, like in the first season when they said “find a Jedi” it was always gonna be Luke. You just make your peace with that. The deepfake was deeply unsettling and the ending scene was both maudlin and irritating. Mostly I am relieved the baby yoda is gone so the show doesn’t have to focus on the baby yoda cuteness phenomenon any more and the Mandalorian can get in sword fights or whatever with the Starbuck lady, that seems promising.

That mandalorian huh? I just wanna see trouble on deserted landscapes and see starwars sets free of light sabers.
I dunno I only made it to episode 5,6 I think? Lets have a ramble about nonsense.

HE GOES WHERE I GO. MY BABIES SEEN SOME SHIT BRO. Is that supposed to be cool or just a device to keep the baby bouncing in the corner of the screen?
If mango just a dad now? Is this a dad show?
I skipped episode 1 (or was it 2?) when the IMMA SHERIFF FROM THE OL WEST shit just got to be too thick.
Its just cliche on cliche, fights I dont buy, mango-fet taking hits constantly that would have killed any other character. Does he have his shit together or not I cant tell anymore. At least hes not using his room clear ability so much. Everybody shut the fuck up.

I love the frosty frog adventure. So saturday morning.
Oh new mandorks. Oh they all take off their helmets all the time. Oh the storm troopers are idiots. How do they get anything done in a universe populated by super ninjas? Like maybe show them being a threat or a problem or winning ever. Do it again last season was long time ago.
Do we even need jedi with jet packs and weapons are this good?
Why are we torturing fish man still? Holy shit hes half blind because mando is a psycho. Or is he a good guy hero now? Maybe hes just a jerk dad who lives in a van. Should I read him as like Dogg The Bounty Hunter? He is racist against droid life.
Whyd he leave baby in the care of a FILTHY DROID?!?!
I loved when the show had like a whole scene for ‘baby eats a blue macaroon’. This is the level of nitrous-oxide brain we are working with I guess.
Lets out run these fighter jets in this busted van we drove off a cliff without dying somehow. Wasn’t there supposed to be like a lava tide? Did they just forget to add that in? Woo more juvenile fist pumping.
Oh hey look its Jedi time in misty death forest. Im call’n you out bad lady!
This is a fucking Hexen level.
I guess this is tied to the rotting hulk of the rest of the universe now.
Baby is 50 and still cant talk? (I guess I knew that) Why train someone with so little retention ability?

He calls is a laser sword and she doesn’t correct him.
Series redeemed!

Then I fell asleep.

What if Respawn gets to make a game that is Star Wars and has jetpacks and guns? And the Ubisoft game can be boring Jedi shit

This may be someone passive aggressively complaining about a choice made above his head that he wishes he could avoid that he can’t be open about, but he can complain about The Mandalorian in the same light.

I get the impression even a lot of leads hands are tied sometimes.

I agree but ciphers are good lol

He might be mistaking the role a cipher protagonist has in adventure serials. A game like Destiny is made on the backs of dozens of narrative failures where side characters are lacking clear goals and wants, and because of this your carefully-plotted character moments are failing against the players, and why don’t you revise these parts and we’ll review it in two days?

But there’s that unseen black hole in the center: the player character, a creature of forward movement and little else; and it turns out action protagonists in linear media are usually thinly sketched for similar reasons.

i have found the motivations of the mandalorian to be pretty easy to intuit and he is also very likable. i mean he doesn’t talk too much, has a cool car, and is nice to kids. what’s not to like.

honestly though i feel like the character is pretty well established despite not having facial expressions or even talking that much. it’s like the best part of the show, that guy is full of shit

Maybe the show needs a fish out of water character to ask I’ve been wondering, what are Mandalorians?

Mandalorians is that special feeling you get when you’re holding hands with your favourite gal

sorry

No Manadalorians is when you think there was a 16 Bit Platformer called Razzle Chameleon but it was erased from this timeline.
