At first I wanted to make a thread called “show me some spine” or something like that, but there’s already lots of lovely spines in here and I also want to show some other stupid parts of my “video game collection”.
Spines though. I love them. And US games have the best ones, let’s be honest. PAL releases often localize the names and no one wants to spend money to redesign the spine art so often you just get a boring black on white text in a boring font. Sometimes you get that even if they don’t change the title. Surprisingly (to me) even Japanese releases look pretty pale, judging by what I’ve seen. What’s up with that? As far as spines go, US games are where it’s at. And I live in PAL land and have to suffer. Unless I happen to get my greedy fingers on some imports. Like those DS games I store in this box:
I wanna get another Ikea shelf and “properly display them” soon though. Like I do with my favorite spines, Wii U and 3DS ones. Because they all have these little logos. Sometimes I just buy the game to see what logo it has. I know. I actually wanted to just take pictures of those little squares and let you guess what game they’re from. Maybe I’ll still do that at some point.
Quick. Let’s move on. To some lesser known spines. Like these:
Some wonderful spine work! Hard to prop them up like that but worth it. Maybe. That’s pretty much all the ones I want to play. Except Warhammer. And Payload. And the Pathway to Glory sequel. But those are somewhat stupid expensive and I’d rather buy more obscure DS garbage. (It’s for science.) Didn’t really expect to be unwrapping N-Gage games and flipping through and smelling fresh N-Gage booklets in 2022 but here I am and those fuckers are sealed pretty tight, gotta admire that thick wrap. But bug, couldn’t you just play these games without buying them? Isn’t it trivially easy to pirate those? Yes of course it is.
Quick. Let’s move on. To something even more (or possibly less?) stupid that I am enjoying quite a bit lately. Pairing loose GBA with DS games. Because most GBA boxes are a fucking mess or nonexistent nowadays, I decided to actually save money. And just do this:
I am cheating a bit because I have a boxed copy of Alex Rider: Stormbreaker for the GBA. It came with some other games, I swear. The DS game is Japanese-developed though (by my personal guilty pleasure developer Altron) and I look forward to playing it. No joke. Not sure about the GBA game though. Also, this actually has a cute background:
More cheating, of course I own pristine CIB copies of all of these M²to developed Petz games. Mostly because the Motorsports Software Technical Office is responsible for my favorite GBA games. (And of course I also own pristine CIB copies of the GT Advance games. Unfortunately I can’t pair any of those, because GT-D Racing for DS never came to be. What a great shame. If I ever become a millionare (unlikely) I’ll be sure to fund a gofundme for GT Advance 3.
Some of these actually make sense, because you get something when you play the DS game with the GBA game plugged in.
They made it so they fit. Don’t blame me. It was meant to be.
