The earliest example of this I can think of is Yoshi’s Island for the SNES (which, well, used that for Yoshi’s entire egg inventory), but it seems like every third game in the 2020s has this in some way. Mario Maker does, Celeste does… honestly I’ve stopped even noticing it to the point where recalling names is difficult.

From my thread about Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2
A small bee I ran into informed me that it would “stick around with me for a while” in a soft French accent. When I came into the proximity of a locked door it just flew straight into the lock and unlocked it, then disappeared. Everyone knows that you’re Kao, apparently.
