Japanese-exclusive Nintendo Switch Online games

There’s a handful of games on Nintendo Classics that you need to download the Japanese version of the apps to play, but you can play them on any region’s accounts.

Here’s a guide to what’s available and how playable it is if you don’t know Japanese. Some of it’s really good stuff!

Of course, fan translations exist and also you could just emulate these games, but if you wanted to play multiplayer on your Switch or just want to play them legitimately, here’s what’s on offer that’s not in the North American/European app.


Famicom

Adventures of Lolo 2

  • Japanese required: None
  • Note: This game was released in North America and Europe as “Adventures of Lolo 2.” The game titled “Adventures of Lolo” in North America and Europe was not released at all in Japan, so in Japan this is simply titled “Adventures of Lolo.”

Clu Clu Land: Welcome to New Clu Clu Land

  • Note: This is an updated version of Clu Clu Land that was released for the Famicom Disk System.

Famicom Mukashibanashi: Shin Onigashima
