finally saw an episode of record of lodoss war, and it turns out that it’s pronounced “low-dose” and not “low-doss.”

I still remember that scene because of how awesome it is.

I don’t actually remember much about Trigun but one of the main conceits is that Trigun Man is the world’s greatest gunslinger but he refuses to kill or seriously hurt anyone so he uses all kinds of Gun Tricks to deliberately not shoot anybody and look like an absolute fool doing it so it seems like an accident and nobody figures out how good of a gunslinger he is. Very Drunken Master vibes

except kare kano

i would personally caution against watching love & pop, whose back half is even more upsettingly misogynistic than eva

anyway imo the only good ghibli is whisper of the heart (i still need to see the wind rises)

I think Trigun is still an A-OK show. The back half might be a bit heady and a tad rushed but still has a place in my teenage heart. The manga on the other hand takes off like a rocket after a few volumes and doesn’t really bother to check if you’re keeping up.

No one really talks about it since it’s been done for a while and except for a movie that came out 8 or so years ago. I reckon we’re getting in the time frame for it to get a Brotherhood style of anime that is a more accurate reflection of the manga but that’s probably gonna be a big production effort. The last half gets big, crazy and has to much detail to be easily readable.

how good is the rayearth anime? i really liked the manga

first part is okay (but of course you know the twist)

second part is good except for the middle part where they repeat the same beats 3 times for each girl but the expectation is that you’re watching weekly and not shoving 4-5 episodes down your maw in a sitting

My trigun anecdote is that a couple years before the movie Nightow was a guest of honor in a local convention in Switzerland. Although hampered by a bad interviewer who’d insist on sticking to a rather boring script he had lots of interesting things to say about his manga and his game development collaborations.

Anyway, the final question was an amusing one: what experience of his stay in switzerland would he take back with him and possibly use in his work? He answered he’d been very impressed by the city itself, built on a slope with a difference in elevation of 500m, and would like to make a story that exploited the concept of a sloped city. And that’s indeed a core element of the heist in the Trigun movie.

By the way, Nightow worked on a game called Gungrave which is kinda not all that interesting, a sort of DMC meets Max Payne thing where you slo-mo-shoot robo-zombies in a kinda cliché story. It got an anime, too, and only watching the first episode you’d think it’s the same thing, but from the second episode onwards it’s basically a series-long flashback that’s anime Godfather as two best bros climb up from the street to the head of a crime syndicate over the years and although I don’t know how well it has aged I remember loving it a lot back then.

I have limited experience but Gungrave is the most insane case of Raising Stakes I’ve ever seen. Like every episode most main characters die and there’s an absolute sea change in the protagonist’s life, it’s crazy

In college me and my friend Jeff were the biggest movie snobs in the art department and we watched panda go panda many times

I kinda liken it to mafia Berserk, only it actually gets around to ending.

TWEWY’s getting an anime, somehow:

Finished Evangelion + End. The horniness never really subsided but I guess it became more contextualized as time went on? On the other hand this piece of Art would be Actually Illegal to make in live action so there’s that.

Misato is the hero, right? I mean we all agree on this.

That very last scene though, whooo, that’s a kicker.

okay i watched episode 8 and end of evangelion, ive seen the forest robot fight scene before, which i always thought fucking owned. whatever translation i saw was shinji jerking it and saying IM THE WORST while looking at his come filled hand. i have said ‘im the worst’ while looking at my own come filled hand tons of times

im not gonna talk about all the actual sex crimes. im going to talk about how i was surrounded by incel shinjis growing up, which made me hate eva, because OH MY GOD THESE FUCKING WORTHLESS BOYS IM SURROUNDED BY WHY CANT THEY GET ANYTHING DONE but now i see shinji and its like oh. oh honey, oh youre so gay… oh no. i want to protect this fucking mope, god help me

what im trying to say is everyone talks about the shinji to misato pipeline but no one talks about the asuka to misato pipeline
