basie’s band never rushed a damn thing :exclamation:

find someone that looks at you like Gerry looks at Benny soloing during their sit-in with Charlie’s band at the 1975 Montreux Jazz Festival, etc.

solid lineup for DC jazzfest this year

got tinnitus at a hiromi concert last year

attended a mentor session from Nathan Borton recently and was impressed with his quartet playing

keep forgetting that sonny stitt is really good and underrated by everyone except sax players

I’ve been getting season tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s jazz series, the most recent was just on May 1 and it was Mike Reed absolutely tearing it up. That show also opened with some kids, high school or maybe college, and they were also impressive. I really like the way they involve students in this series. They did one last year where they involved a marching band with one of the shows and it was a lot of fun.

It seems like the final show of the season is always Wynton Marsalis and he does not disappoint either.

woke up with Lady Bird stuck in my head. might be my favorite jazz standard. put that turnaround in everything.
1 b3 b6 b2 → 1

fats navarro and tadd dameron

dexter gordon

chet baker

of course, there is also Half Nelson (miles davis’ contrafact of lady bird). which is also really good. same chords different melody

miles and charlie parker, of course. there’s also an alternate take with this group floating around. max roach on drums

miles davis quintet, off workin’

i’ve never heard this charlie parker version before, the audio quality is bad but the lines are so good. we still haven’t caught up to bird
