It's The Year Of The Super Famicom (2024)

they added co-op for the remake of ninja warriors again, but it’s not very balanced and both characters share health and meter.

also remember you have to play the jp version of rainbow bell adventure to really get the full experience (it has a translation patch for those who need it though). they cut a lot of stuff out of the western version

Whats Up Folks. While on Vacation I pulled out my trusty SNES Mini and actually played it.

A. Dad Note: Neo Rude still too young for video games doesn’t understand dpad and buttons. Got scared of the turtles in Mario World. Watched me play Super Metroid for 20 minutes and cheered me on the whole time. It was very sweet.

B. Played Super Metroid because my only source for entertainment My Life In Gaming Live Streams complained SM’s wall jump was very bad. Then an internet celebrity was inexplicably in the chat and agreed with them. Y’all know I hate Super Metroid but the extremely technical, extremely weird, never necessary wall jump that’s just kind of there if you want to find it I love. It requires button presses that have never been repeated in any other game including the thousands of games it inspired. Congrats Super Metroid Wall Jump! You Rule! I can make actual complaints about Super Metroid, but not today.

C. Donkey Kong Country fucking owns. You can just hang out with a buddy passing a controller barely caring about the game. What a bowl of chex mix DKC is.

D. I had inexplicably Operation Logic Bomb on this hacked console. There has been one post about this game. Turns out I had been admiring the incredible Japanese box art.

The game is a very solid C game. It has many cutscenes explaining the story of what happened. The first thing you see in the game is feet. It feels weirdly like a modern AA game, but no budget on the SNES.

Those details were the best

No no no. It’s so bad. Why

It’s for the NES Strider fans.

because it’s good

It’s extremely weird, extremely technical, and you never need it. It causes you to deliberately press buttons in a way you will never again press buttons.

Miyamoto invented Mario 64 because he saw the Super Metroid wall jump and said “Shit I should have thought of that”

Wait a sec… Arkanoid Doh it Again uses the SNES mouse? I own both of those things and never knew.

Looking it up and the game has 99 levels which would explain why I never beat it despite loving the series.

It does, but I think only half the time. If you haven’t seen it just about every time you go indoors it becomes a FPS instead of a top down action/adventure game, and my vague recollection is that you either can only use it for those portions or would only ever want to use it for those portions.

But we’re talking 1993 mouse controls where you move the mouse forward to go forward.
