I wanted to give myself a little time before introducing myself, since I’ve been bouncing from forum to forum these past few weeks. But now that I’ve settled in, I have to say, I think this place is pretty rad.

I’ve been playing video games for almost 40 years. My first game was Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel’s Castle on the Coleco. My Smurf kept biting it on that hill, and I knew I was in for life.

Outside of gaming, I’m a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire; it’s hands-down my favorite story ever, and I’m really hoping GRRM finishes it in my lifetime. I’m a hip-hop head who’s always been into lyrics (I might make a thread about favorite bars soon). I’m also really into movies; especially horror, and especially foreign horror. I love film that challenges me.

Okay, that’s all I have for now, I’ll be around.

Smurfs

P.S. It might be time to update the avatar, so a different look coming soonish?

My neighbor had Smurfs on the Atari 2600 when I was a kid, and I was impressed that it had in-game background music. That was unusual at the time. I don’t know how much that version differed from the one on the Connecticut Leather Company’s console.

What a beautiful first game. It makes sense that you would get hooked when you get to control a blue little guy like that.

Welcome to the forum!

correct me if I’m wrong but this was the first game to feature a triple jump, right?

All I know is that it was the first game I ever beat as a kid, and I got so mad that it just looped.

hello! I like all music that doesn’t suck but especially stoner metal. I play with drums, 1980s retrocomputers / retrogames and synths, I watch canadian football semi-religiously and I will fuss over your pets. I am a complete fool for star wars. I imprinted on that but not anime somehow.

When it comes to video games I am aggressively solitary. Don’t play anything multiplayer except for a brief intense pre-pandemic run on Star Wars Squadrons when that came out.

I am currently playing the shit out of MechForce, a buggy and clumsy but also fucking awesome Amiga exclusive Battletech knockoff from back in the day.

Did you get to design that robot? It’s a cool robot.

short answer: no, that’s the Amiga workbench application icon for the game. It takes up 1/3 of the screen. It’s glorious.

long answer: you get to design robots like it! which are then rendered as itty bitty top-down icons on a hex grid:
