I try to understand its vibe from this video when I first visit the forum
I thought it’s a good forum for sharing your odd ideas in public category (King of Posters/Input/Output), if you seek more than ‘TOP 99 games in 2023’. Most of threads based on a theme, an angle of video games or art or just memes. eg if you wanna share some first drafts about a type of video games like ‘video game characters who have cancer’, you would like to titled ‘Electronic Oncology’ or ‘Does Johnny Silverhand dream about brain tumors?’, you will get many interesting replies, the more you post, the more you enjoy the style.
In hidden category Forum Axe: the Duel, it does consist of hidden forum context background, LGBT values and some ideologies surrounding it. Sometimes you will ignore the title ‘the Duel’, but it’s not an overreaction.

thanks for the overview of the topics and boards - think i unlocked the axe a few hours ago. i may have some draft-type things i could put up later. not sure how i feel about watching an over a decade old video from someone who looks pretty young like that even as a ‘snapshot’ - feels a bit too personal to go back that deep

Welcome! I took a look at The Orb and it’s pretty neat. Visually quite striking. What’s its deal? Gen-Z people who grew up on 2010’s weird twitter tracing it back to its 2000’s Something Awful roots and trying to create a terrarium for it to flourish in the 2020’s?

no actual link to SA, though some BYOB users found the site and stuck around like a week, one time. they were a touch on the crass side for our vibes, and in a self fulfiling prophecy all left because there ‘werent enough posts’. theres actually only a couple of ‘younger’ people in that regard, and technically the site is 18+.
probably the most apt description is its just a forum about roleplaying being on a forum? started in and was very lively during pandemic lockdowns when nobody had anything better to do, but now entropy’s taken over and we kind of just hang out. for anyone interested, the orb gets a kick out of new users, and the cultural passtime is to keep clicking on the dice icon to go to random threads, and bumping up any old ones if you have something funny to add. no real cultural exports due to the newness and smallness, but we did have that kendrick lobstar guy who keeps going viral for burning things in an air fryer
more history
i wasn’t around originally, so this is mostly what ive put together over time. circa ~2020
some drilverse twitter guy named derek put together a forum called twitter2 on proboards. this was another pandemic lockdown thing so immediately people took to it basically spamming as many threads and replies as they could type up about anything. most notably was the ‘stoner girls taskforce’ thread, which mostly involved posting salacious 2000s images of women in bikinis posing with bongs (shouts out to our Girls in Green). this ended up being against TOS, and derek saw it as an opportunity to self destruct a project he wasn’t really interested in anymore, so he directed a bunch of people to go to the support staff site and harrass everyone…
a number of the t2 mods (people he selected mostly at random as a bit), roles he didn’t really give any power to other than being able to move threads between boards, ended up working together to set up the orb pretty quickly as a safety net, and these days are pretty bitter about dereks handling of it all. now its pretty much its own thing, and similarly most the staff/mods are lgbt - but its mostly about joking around so its not a super common topic.

auto-compression not tied to trust level but default behavior definitely compresses anything with transparency. i’ll see what i can do

its no real issue ehehe. ive had to wrangle with discourse before, so i know the machinations are a bit crusty. i mean, it really is just kind of the best/safest option today, but it takes a lot to pull it out of that ‘support desk site’ feel for communities that mostly trust each other on users not trying to explode the site
